Inspired to tithe. Tithers only please.

its so weird how people are all for giving to God but if people give a tithe its suddenly wrong. Or if people dont tithe but give in others ways its suddenly wrong. giving is giving, giving a tithe is just one way of doing that among many ways.

its the heart that matters. its between the person and God. If someone is called to tithe by God who are we to say what they are doing is wrong. If someone is called not to tithe but give to God in other ways then who are we to say what they are doing is wrong.

Giving to God is right in whatever form it takes.

I think the problem is that the word "tithing" carries with it quite a few connotations, intentionally or otherwise. That is why I've stopped advocating "tithing" and instead advocated "giving".

But I agree that in any giving (no matter what you call it), it is the heart, not the amount or the percentage, that honors God.

Isn't it all His anyways? I mean, if He doesn't have our money, we're not totally surrendered to Him in every area of our lives imo. The 10% becomes a non-issue.

I know He's not necessarily talking about physical blessings, but I'd have settled for any kind of blessing during the test. There was nothing (that I could discern).

I've always heared this text is about tithing, but if you also read the context, it's about Israel being purified and offering in righteousness and doing His will. This is more a prophecy about Acts 2 where noone had a need or the coming revival of Israel, I guess.

God didn't challenge you to put Him to the test!........who ever taught you that when reading the bible, that when God speaks to someone or some group of people that you can simply slip you're name in and say "God is speaking this verse to me"

why not put you're name in behind scriptures, where God is dishing out curses on people would that make any more sense?

when reading the bible you must keep in mind that not everything was written directly to you, thus the passages used in Malachi also can't be used as directly for Christians today.

just been debating that whole topic, the OSAS have confirmed that those people who were casting out demons and doing miracles were not really saved

Then how could those individuals cast out those demons and do those miracles in Jesus' name if they were not saved? Remember happened to the Jews in Acts 19 when they tried to cast out a demon in Jesus name? The demon possessed man turned on them and stomped their faces off. So are you so sure they really weren't saved? Also how did they confirm it? I definitely don't agree with OSAS. But that isn't for this forum or thread now. When I finally caught on to what God had been speaking to me about tithing it changed from being a number to act of worship. The tithe isn't just finances, but time, talent and gifting also.

I do my best to tithe my time to the church, maybe in our food program, ushering, visiting the sick, small groups, maintenance and clean up - wherever needed. That 4 to 6 hours a week is a great time dedicated to God and used to touch His people.

I tithe my talent by helping a couple small business men with bookkeeping and accounting functions.

When I keep my focus on God and worshiping Him in my life and actions, I care less and less about what someone else has.

This is true for me as well. Not only have I not been affected by the financial storm, I've experienced more financial growth in the last 3 years than in any other time in my life. Yet I stopped "tithing" in June 2009.

I'm not trying to be argumentative or contrary. I'm simply saying that I've experienced tremendous financial blessing in the past 3 years, and I can't attribute it to faithful tithing. I simply give, of my finances, of my time, and of myself, whenever I can. My desire is to give, to help, and to be a blessing.

I call it tithing when in reality I passed 25% years ago -

col 2:10 says we are complete IN HIM...

so were the non tithing gentiles in the early church, not focussed? Focussed by tithing? Wha?

for that matter, the jewish converts to judaism in Antioch were not tithing, as barnabas saw the grace there, Acts 11, all without tithing.

You ought to know me better than that.

See, I don't think it's splitting hairs. "Tithing" is not a subjective term. The word "tithe" very literally means "a tenth part". So when someone says that one should "tithe", the are very literally saying that they should give a tenth of their finances.

If what is being proposed is generous, cheerful giving, why choose to use the word "tithe"? That only muddies the water, and brings up all the endless arguments that we're seeing currently in this forum.

On this we agree. I believe there are people who are promoting keeping things for yourself, thinking of yourself first, taking care of your own needs, etc. under the guise of outrage for the "tithe". But then, there are other people who really do desire to give. Not everyone who disagrees with "tithing" as it is taught in most churches today is simply looking to hold on to their money. IMO, using the word "tithe" to describe "generous giving" serves only to confuse the discussion further.

My take on this rather controversial subject is that tithing predated the Law and comes to us through Abraham, whose seed we are in Christ; that tithing is a foundational principle of obedience to God; that it may be divided among ministries; but that a harvest can only be expected if the whole tithe is sown into good ground.
