Your faith has certainly not been challenged. The OP's faith and what the OP has been inspired to do has nothing to do with what you feel. This wasn't a personal attack against you.
I can accept that if that is the case. If so, then why could they not just say so. But seeing how I was called a false witness Im not sure it was.
Looks like this thread is about to digress into a bash the faith of non-tithers style discussion. You can't possibly justify your faith is greater than someone who doesn't believe in tithing just because you give 10% of your income to a local assembly.
Where have I spoken a lie? Tell me Im curious, I challenged what was said and so because of that Im a liar and a false witness? Comments like yours are a big reason people think badly about Christians, too many "Christians" today are ignorant of their own faith and when challenged with something they don't have an answer for its easier to just throw accusations. God bless you sis!
LOL - can't imagine this is anything other than a pastor or someone who depends on tithing wanting to reinforce the concept. Seems to me, tithers are afraid of the truth and afraid to trust God. We need to allow God to lead giving, as the New Covenant specifies. This is like a thread that asks for people who still practice the Law to share their similar stories and challenges . . . LOL
In your opinion does that apply to those who do not believe in, nor practice tithing but still give in other ways? To charity or to homeless for example?
Yes, thank you, good points. All belongs to the Lord, and the tithe is one way to honor the Lord. Good point about how tithers usually give more than 10%. That's what it sounded like to me also.i dont think of myself as a tither but someone who wants to give their money to God. Tithing is one way among many to do that which I've seen the example of my parents doing and its a good example, it taught me my money is given by God in the first place so we give back to God in the way we use our money because it's His money on loan to us! I'm very grateful for that example actually.
most people who tithe i reckon end up giving more than that tithe anyway because they know their money isnt theirs but God's and so the rest of their money they try to use in a God honoring way anyway.
its more blessed to give than to receive. i never think of the tithe i give as my money its always Gods. i give it back. i dont expect anything in return from Him for that cos it's His. Also the rest of the money i earn is His that He's given me as well so that's His so i tend to try to spend it on good things that He would be happy with me spending it on. All the money we earn is for God's Kingdom not just a tithe anyway. when we buy a car it should be for God's use. when we buy food it should be for God's purposes. when we buy a house it should be for God to use for His purposes. etc etc.
personally i think giving a tithe is helpful in how to give and use our money in a God honoring way
How inspiring, thank you for sharing. I like how you were blessed before you got a chance to do what the Lord told you to do. I am inspired by your continued sacrifice to tithe and the blessings you are experiencing. Thank you.I give/tithe whatever to my ex because he is a pastor and has a very small income and a lot of debts. Last year God said I'd give him 50 euro, I hadn't even given it, but already decided to and got 500 from someone else the same week. I had very little myself, ate bread and cheese each day for dinner myself, but since I started tithing in this manner, I'm out of financial problems and can supply for the kids. Another blessing: I never buy clothes for myself, much too expensive. I got clothes from someone for the kids and a G star for myself which I would never buy, even if I had the money.
I would like to hear more about tithing as an act of worship instead of an obligation. This is what I want to do. What was it like when you were giving out of obligation and how did it change when you started giving as worship? Do you have to work at keeping it an act of worship? Do you slide back into obligation sometimes? I look forward to hearing more.I began in obedience, giving my obligatory 10%, then about 22 years ago God dealt with me about the tithe as an act of worship.
My life has never been the same since. The tithe isn't about money, it is about worship by giving. I tithe my money, my talents and my time. It is an amazing life of worship.
I'll post more later.
Thank you. This is good to hear. I like how you heard and followed the Lord and he took care of you.I absolutely believe the NT supports giving to your local fellowship but I do have a testimony about giving when led by the Spirit. Years ago my ex-wife who initially had physical custody of our two children started developing drinking problems. I ended up winning full custody in court but my ex kept causing problems and was trying to disrupt the bonding process of my kids from becoming accustomted to living with me full time. Now I wouldn't reommend this but I decided to move out of state without a job to go to so we could have peace and create a normal life. I had been shopping around for a moving truck and hadn't settled on one do to the cost. We needed to down side our material goods and took a load to the local mission. While there I saw their offering box and felt led to give the eighty dollars I had on me. That was a huge a mount at the time do to the fact of all the up coming and unknown circumstances ahead of us. The very next day when searching for rental trucks the price was cut in half! That was a saving of over four hundred dollars! I didn't give the donation to get anything back. I did it because I felt led by the Spirit And God blessed it.
I like how the Lord told you to trust him. Do you always hear him clearly? Your bible proofs for tithing in the other thread were what helped me see tithing is for today and your kindness to the critics who weren't kind to you convinced me tithers like to give and are sharing out of love not law.The church I attended years ago asked us to pray and ask God what to pledge to support the church. A month later we put the $ or % figure on a pledge card, signed them, put them into a basket, and offered them to the Lord. This happened once a year. They didn't teach on giving or tithing.
Later, within a period of a month or two, the Lord supernaturally led me to all the scriptures on tithing. I soon realized tithing's a bible pattern. When I asked Him about it. He said, "Tithing pleases Me". I checked out my finances and 10% wasn't doable. I couldn't pay my bills. He told me to trust Him, so I began tithing and the financial miracles started happening.
I've had money appear several times in my bank account, that couldn't be traced back to a source.
I've found large sums of money in envelopes, or in strange places at home.
I've had unexpected checks and refunds appear, in the mail or on my credit card.
I've had people (some of them strangers) hand me money.
God give me my first business supernaturally. I was unemployed and looking for work. I'd just bought a house and had huge bills. God had strangers phone me asking for a quote. They couldn't explain how they got my private number. I prayed, got a business name, and registered it quickly after this happened several times.
The interesting thing is each time I had a job interview, a call came to do a job. I prayed and felt earning immediate cash for a job was more important than showing up for an interview. After 3 or 4 months I realized I had a prosperous business and stopped looking for a regular job.
I didn't miss a bill or my tithe. God provided supernaturally for each need.
These points helped me thank you. This matches what tithers are calling tithing as an act of worship and tithing is a blessing. It seems to be the difference between legalism and grace tithing.-What I would say to someone who wants to tithe is to give gladly. The NT does in fact give instruction on tithing
- so if we give with a glad heart
-I stay in faith by understanding that I don't give out of ritual
-but because I desire to give back some of what God has given to me
-a show of gratitude. After all, I would not even be able to tithe if God hadn't put me in the position to do so. Also, I avoid falling into the law by only giving if I can give with a joyful spirit.
How did you tithers start tithing?
What kinds of things would you have to say to someone who wants to tithe?
What was it like for you in the beginning?
How is it for you now?
What kinds of things do you see God do for you?
How do you make sure tithing stays by faith and not slip into law?
Are there any challenges to tithing?
