What artists inspire you? Do you have any musical role models?

I'll give just a few of mine..

Stevie Nicks- She adapts with the sounds of the time, but still has that rawness that says "that's Stevie Nicks." And her songwriting is even more amazing than her voice.

Allison Krauss- Overduing the vocals never sounded so sweet. :p

Tom Petty- The Willie Nelson of rock 'n roll. The voice has to grow on you, and once it does, you're taken in for life. Great songwriting, guitar, and my #1 favorite harmonica player.

Eddie Van Halen- He must have a lot of free time. I mean, sticking the drill upto the guitar... very clever.

Lindsey Buckingham- Greatest acoustic guitarist ever, and great song writer. Not big on your adittude in the 80s, but you got talent.

Mick Fleetwood- I've never been in a band, but that is commitment with a capital C. And plus you taught yourself to play drums awesomely.

I have LOTS of musical role models. Not really role models for life, just for music.

Steve Vai - this dude feels everything he plays, experimental

Joe Satriani - so much feel and tone, awesome licks and chops, pure rock =]

Marc Seal - the christian equivalent to the above... an awesome guy and awesome player

Brian May - the harmonies! the harmonies! awesome stuff, great rock, awesome melodies

Eric Johnson - TONE! TONE! TONE! That's all I have to say. This guy has tone coming out the wazooo

Joe Pass - wow, solo jazz guitar at it's finest. his playing is amazing

Pat Metheny - an awesome jazz soloist

George Benson - speed and composition.... great player

lol, i think I better end it there, I have SOOO many more. Maybe if I don't give them a description, lol.

Katchafire, Fat Freddy's Drop, Salmonella Dub, Metallica, Megadeth, Rhapsody, Verse 2, Eight, B.B. King. All for different reasons

Major influences:

Stevie Ray Vaughan - I'm not sure what I can say about him that hasn't already been said. His soul flowed directly though his hands, into his guitar, and out of his amp.

Page Hamilton (Helmet) - His rhythm guitar skills are second to none, and he has the trained ear of an educated jazz musician.

James Hetfield (Metallica) - One of the best rhythm guitarists ever. His right wrist must be made out of rubber or something.

John Petrucci/Mike Portnoy/Jordan Rudess/John Myung/James LaBrie (Dream Theater) - No matter how skilled a musician or how creative a songwriter you are, these guys will be better than you. Period.

Joe Satriani - He proved that instrumental music is not just for elevators and grocery stores.

Minor influences:

Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) - Well known as a guitarist and songwriter, but often overlooked as a producer. Led Zeppelin's albums are some of the best sounding recordings of their era.

Frederik Thordendal and Marten Hagstrom (Meshuggah) - 7-strings, 8-strings, polyrhythms. . .they don't teach this stuff in high school music class.
