I'm looking for new things to read, something inspirational as well as thought-provoking, and wanted to ask if any of you had recommendations for Church Fathers that you found to be personally inspiring for your faith?
For example, I am fond of Gregory of Nyssa (my username refers to his sister), and found On Perfection to be very edifying. He has so many little nuggets tucked in there, it's wonderful. At one point he uses painting a portrait as an analogy of the spiritual life -- he says that our life is the canvas, virtues are our colors, and the portrait is one of Christ -- which begs the question, what kind of portrait am I painting?
And yes, the Confessions of Augustine tops the list of inspirational patristic works. Anyone else have other suggestions?
