Okay, I’d like to bring a new concept to th RPG boards.. I hope it catches on.
For lack of a better name, I’ll call it The Workout Room.
What I hope to accomplish with this concept is to provide RPers a way to get to kow their characters quickly and easily, without interfering with any plot lines that character is currently in, and in a way that is a lot of fun.
My reasons? Often I, and other writers, have run into rough spots in the middle of a plot where I just wasn’t sure what my character would do. What would they say? How would they act? But you just HAVE to write something and hope it doesn’t look too contrived. Except . . . It FEELS contrived.
Annoying, eh?
It can really take some of the life out of your writing.
But what if there was a way to treat this most horrendous of RPing ailments, a waay to not only get a firmer grip on your character’s personality, but also to potentially unlock hidden details and facets of your character’s life and mind you might never – until perhaps too late --- even know existed?
Well, that’s what The Workout Room is designed for!
You with me here? Awesome. Then read on.
The basic premise is simple, really.
In order to really get a feel for how a character would act at any given time, in any given situation, and under any given circumstance, that character must first be taken out of the context he or she was designed for . . .
. . . andd placed into a new, COMPLETELY unfamiliar setting in which he or she is forced to interact with the oddest, most bizarre people imaginable!
This new setting, of course, is The Workout Room.
And can you guess who these “people” are?
You got it – other RPers!
Now I’m betting you’re wondering EXACTLY how this fantastic concept works.
To be honest, I’ve got a pretty good idea how it does.
But first . . .
I’d really like some input from you.
See, I don’t want this to be just some personal exercise. I want this to be a benefit to everyone. I want The Workout Room to stand beside The Arena as one of CFRPG’s prime establishments.
But to do this, I need support from YOU.
Yes, YOU.
So if you’re even remotely interested in the concept . . . if you want a way to get to know your characters really, really well . . . and have LOTS OF FUN in the process . . .
Then post your insights and ideas here!
