Most inlaws often get a bad rap.

What do you appreciate about your inlaws?

I appreciate that my in-laws are very supportive of us. They are always excited when something good happens to us and want us to do well in life, even if that means not being able to see us as much. Also, they even do nice things for us out of the blue.

Last year DH's step-dad got a bonus from work and they sent both of us $150 to spend on something fun for ourselves. This year they know we don't have much money to spend on Christmas gifts so they said they would actually give us money to buy some (we probably won't accept the offer, but it's very nice that they offered to begin with).

FIL: Great with techy type stuff and great with photography/cameras.

MIL: Social Butterfly. Her attempts to act like "one of the young girls" makes me laugh.

I am so grateful for my husband's family. His mom and all of her sisters accepted me with open arms and have always made me feel welcome and appreciated. His dad and all of his dad's side of the family took me in as a daughter from day one. His dad even introduces me as his daughter, which can get some funny looks sometimes. From the first time I visited their house I felt comfortable. There was no awkward silences and unlike my family no matter what Robert and I put each other through they still accept us and love us and remind us that it is us against the world and we need to stick together. If it weren't for them, there have been times when we would have called it quits....so thank you to my inlaws.

Don't get me wrong we have our disagreements and sometimes they annoy me but that is what is so great about it. I am truly a member of the family and I know they love me like I was one of their own.

My in-laws live in the same town as us, and they are ALWAYS willing to watch Andie for us, whenever we need a weekend to catch up on stuff around the house, or just to take a "break" for us. FIL is so handy around the house, he helped my DH do our new tile floor while I was away, next project is new granite countertops for the kitchen. MIL loves to entertain, she's somewhat "flighty" but has an awesome talent for decorating, so she's always buying me really cute stuff for the house that I REALLY don't mind setting out!!

I wish I could do more with my inlaws and they could be more involved with our family. I have a language barrier with both my inlaws as they are both deaf and I don't know sign language well. I'm working on learning as my kids learn also.

My FIL lives far away, so we don't see him often.

My MIL lives near. In addition to her being deaf, she is also blind and has some mental problems. I do spend a lot of time with her, what I appreciate about her is despite her dissabilities she is a prime example of a woman of faith.

My husbands grandmother who plays more of a MIL role to me is one of my best friends. We didn't start out on a smooth road lol, she has greatly earned my adoration, respect and love for her.

They don't call often and only want to do things on holidays and birthdays.....I'm glad they keep thier distance most of the time.....That's about all I can find to appreciate about them, and I'm a very optomistic kida person

I have really been blessed with great inlaws. I just have a MIL & SIL but they're both great. We usually see each of them once or twice a year.

My husband's mom died when he was 15 so I never knew her. His dad passed away the year before we were married and I adored him.

I have been blessed with great SILs and BILs. I am really close with them. My husband has an aunt (his mom's sister) who kind of took over as MIL when we were married. I love her. We don't live close by, but we talk often.

My MIL is the greatest person I ever had the opportunity to meet.
She is funny, friendly, giving, and very loving. I started calling her Ma before my wife and I were even married. She calls me studmuffin for some reason. Never really figured out why. I would do anything for her and the family.

My SIL is a great one too. Kinda quiet and shy, But, When she warms up, She is just about as fun as a barrel of monkeys. She and my wife get quite animated during their canasta games.

My FIL is kind of a hypocrite, Most of the family limits their time with him.

My Father in Law didn't like me at first, so we didn't get along very well, but I made peace with him as he was dying in the hospital. Don't wait for that to happen is my advice. My mother in law was blind so we ended up seeing her a lot. We became good friends. She has since gone to be with the Lord as well. My wife has a twin brother and we are good friends now. Don't waste precious time being mad or whatever. You will regret it when they are gone.

I haven't met my husbands mother yet, but I hope to soon. She has been very supportive of our relationship, and always has a kind word to say about me to hubby. I pray things stay the same, or get better once I meet her.

I regret not getting to meet my husbands father. He passed away about 3 months before we were married. From all accounts, he was a loving and gentle man. Just like my husband.

My in-laws are fantastic. They have always been kind and supportive and accepting of me. I married dh with two kids in tow, and they have just loved my kiddos as much as their "blood" grandbabies. They call frequently when hubby travels to check on me.

I could go on and on. I actually get along better with FIL than I do my own father. If I needed fatherly advice, he is definitely the one I would go to.

New creature, do you mind if I ask wwhat's the age difference between the two of you? I don't mean to annoy you, just curious, my dad was 35 years older than my mom.

It isn't so much the fact that he doesn't like me. He does like me quite a bit. I do most of his automotive repairs for him.
I'm not mad at him, I'm just so shocked that one who acts so pure and just isn't living the way he portrays.
He is one that quotes the scripture all the time and yet steps out on his wife.
He tries to hide it and I still see the signs. My ex did the same to me.
I have very little respect for him. Maybe someday that will change. But, Til he changes his habits, I can't do much more.

My FIL is a hoot and a half! The best thing about him is that through him I can be prepared for what my husband will be like when he is in his 60s. Really, though, the guy is just sooo funny and full of life.

My StepMIL is a perfect companion to my FIL. She is sweet, generous, and always thinks of others.

My MIL died 7 months before I met my husband. I wish I coulda known her because I know I coulda learned alot from her.

The best thing about my sib-in-laws is that most of them live far away. The ones that are nearby are all wonderful though.

My in-laws are the best. They live in Vegas so we vacation there 1-2 times a year. They will do anything for us. They take us places when we go to Vegas. They buy us things when we are in Vegas. They live in Vegas and did I mention that they are in Vegas..... I love my in-laws in Vegas.
The best thing about them being in Vegas is I live in Michigan.
