I decided to start this thread, mainly because I haven’t seen an Inductive Bible Study done on line yet, someone probably has, but I think you get the picture.

What is an Inductive Bible Study?

Take one book of the Bible, for instance, John. and study it one passage at a time in the following manner: Read the passage, make Observations, then interpretations, then Applications.

Observations - What are the...
a) Key words / Transition words?
b) Repeated words or themes?
c) Interesting comparisons / contrasts?
d) Final Stresses?
e) Summary verses?

Interpretation - What does it mean?
a) What did Jesus mean to say?
b) How did the author mean the first readers (around 50 A.D.) to understand it.

Application - What does it mean to...
a) Us (each individual)
b) The world

Ok, now that we know what an Inductive Bible study is, I want to know if people would be interested in starting one up here? I was thinking we could do one book (To be determined later,) one passage a week, and discuss it through the week, each person giving what they got in Observation, Interpretation, and Application from that passage. sound good so far? Let me know what you think. :)

One of the other tings that I'm looking at, is the number of people involved. If we get a large number of people, we'll need to have more then one thread. It would take forever to get through one passage with more then 12 people. For now, I'll keep track of the number of and the names of the people that are interested, then start the forums necessary and assign people to those threads. I guess it would be like a "Small Group" format. For example “Inductive Bible Study (Group 1)” would be a thread title. Is everyone ok with that? Then maybe we can use this thread to overview what each group has come up with at the end of each week, and discuss problems or issues groups are running into.

'm definitely interested. It might be quite nice if we could,as rangemaster say, get into groups of 12 or something along those lines. It would be good to have a regular discussion with people on these forums. Just to clarify (and this is probably going to make me sound rather silly) when you say read a passage a week, do you chapter verse, or 'section'?

We would be doing one book, one passage each week. I'll give you an example:

Sunday: Post John 1:1-18 (this would be the passage of the week)

Monday - Wednesday: everyone post their Observations, Interpretations and Application.

Thursday - Saturday: Discuss what everyone got out of it.

Sunday: Post John 1:19-28

and on and on...until the designated book is complete. Sound good? :)

If you're new to the thread, and haven't yet done so, read the first post to know what an Inductive Bible Study is. Thank you.

If I post something in blue, as you see above, it's just to help people understand what we are taking about in here. :)

Sounds good.
What i was getting at in my first post (but my mind wasn't really on it) was that it may be nice to have a sort of cell group feeling to it. Then if there are a few groups it might be nice to have a different nationalities in each group and just pray for the same people each week and pray for issues that affect them in their country/are, as well as the passage. Just a thought, but will definitely be keen on the inductive bible study part regardless

I've started two threads under the following address (Forum):

http://www.christianforums.com/f235

One is titled, "Inductive Bible Study (Gospel of John)" and the other is "Inductive Bible Study (Romans)." People have already started posting what they've found. The 2nd passage starts next Monday; so if you want to study John or Romans, or maybe even both, we've already got the threads up for you.

Rodney :)
