Yes, that is the trend these days. Smaller films are often better because they don't have to rely on huge visual effects or production values but instead on basic storytelling like character and plot. It's good to know that there are more people who appreciate smaller, independent films. I particularly loved Brick and Dear Frankie among the titles you mentioned.

One of my favorite movies is "Tape." It's literally two (sometimes three) people sitting in one room talking for the entirety of the movie. Without the spectacular acting the movie would be boring as dirt, but somehow it's great and everyone I can get to watch it loves it.

Not really. I prefer a good story. And most foreign films are mainstreamn in their countries.

Yes, Tape accomplished what Dogme 95 couldn't. Von Trier's still the man, though.
