  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The attendance was down about 50% too. But Pres. O. still drew 800,000+ people to his inauguration. Over 5 X the measly 140,000 people who turned out for Reagan's 2nd inauguration. (Though it was 7° in DC that day. Maybe God was sending a message. :) )

How much did this cost taxpayers?

Actually, most of the inauguration was privately funded -- but feel free to manufacture some outrage anyway.

OBAMA FAILS TO TOP OWN RECORD FOR HIGHEST INAUGURATION ATTENDANCE!

assuming your numbers are right, his second inauguration barely tripped Bush's.

What kind of precedent is that? Oh, largest ever for a second inauguration. That's the kind of precedent.

Before he was a first, we had 8 long years of a lackluster president with an even more lackluster set of congress'.

Now we have had 4 more years of a lackluster president and an even worse congress then before.

The magic is gone, he's continuing the trend of grabbing more executive power, the only difference is that since people noticed it during Bush's term, congress has actually started to gripe about it, quite ironically as they have been facilitating it for years.

Obama will not likely crown himself king anymore then Bush did, but if Congress doesn't do something, and start actually moving through meaningful legislation, I wouldn't doubt that we could see the executive branch border upon complete control within my lifetime.

Bush (and those before him) did it with signing statements, Obama is doing it with executive orders.

Here's the thing, that 50% of his first inauguration crowd is still the largest crowd ever for a second inauguration. Obama's issue is the most do-nothingest of the do-nothing congresses and a failure to seize the initiative and push through an agenda on his own. The failure is not that he has made a power grab, but that he's allowed republicans to put a full stop to all congressional business.

112 signing statements from Bush43 for his first term.
I count 21 signing statements from O.

So yeah Bush was all over it with signing statements.
Obama must be over the top for executive orders for you to be outraged! to this degree: let's us check out the numbers.

Bush43: (First term only) 170 EOs
.

Whereas that usurper Obama is legislating from the Oval Office with scads, (scads, I say) of EO's for a total of 147!

Thing is Obama promised no signing statements at all. I'm glad he's taken a major step back from previous administrations, but it is still a promise broken.

I think Obama's EO are further reaching then Bush's, perhaps I just didn't hear as much about them.

There appears to be some confusion over signing statements and executive orders. The objectionable signing statements were to the effect that the president had no intention of fulfilling the particular law he was signing. Executive orders are just how president's manage the administrations of various executive functions.

Take a look at EO 13492 which was supposed to clear out and close up the detention facilities at Gitmo, or at least begin the process.

They're burying the grandchildren of the people who held their breaths for this to actually happen.
