Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: Proverbs 3:1-10
Proverbs 3:5 (NASB) "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding."
Have you ever tried to drive through a heavy patch of fog? I can recall one time last summer when I was heading to work twenty miles away in such conditions. My daily commute took me on narrow, rural road to my final destination. With tight corners and twists, there was really nothing I could do except look five feet in front of me, keep my hands on the wheel, and focus on the road. Even by headlights were of no help. Fortunately, though, I was able to come out of the fog and get to my place of work.
Dense fog and driving are not a good mix. Just last year, on the last day of a holiday weekend, a friend from high school was killed when she encountered thick fog on a similar road. Though she was on the final leg of her journey home, the fog was so thick and her visibility so short, that her car ran aground and killed her instantly.
Since both of these experiences, I have often wished that I had a kind of foolproof system of finding my way through life when it seemed I was in a fog. When it was time to decide what to do with my summer, what seminary to attend, what job to take, there just seems to be too many choices and no clear direction.
Yet it has been at those times that I have realized that all we can do is faithfully follow the One who is leading the way. We can trust Him to bring us right where He wants us to be (Proverbs 3:5-6). We may not be able to see very far ahead, but we are able to keep Christ in view, talk with Him, seek His wisdom, ask for His protection from poor choices, and live in obedience to Him.
When nothing else seems clear, we can--and we must--keep our eyes on Christ. He will get us through those foggy decision-making situations and bring us to the point that we realize He knew exactly where He was leading us. Faith Lesson: Jesus, the Light of the world, knows your future--trust Him.
In Christ,
Darin Smith
