So, who's in the coffin and who's the man on the boat.

I think it's Locke in the coffin. He's the only one besides Saywer who has no family. If it was Saywer, Kate would have gone. That leaves ocke.

Ben's man on the boat? I predict Michael.

I do think Michael is boat-guy.

As for the coffin, I go back and forth on it. I think Locke, but I don't think he could have been rescued with the core group (i.e., one of the Oceanic 6) because the news article would have been bigger, more coverage.

If he got off the island in some other way, which is very possible, and no one knew who he was, it would make sense for the story to be about some random guy from New York who was found dead.

I think he died on the island and was delivered back.

I don't think it's lock- I don't think he would have left the island whatsoever- unless his body was delivered off island... but what would be the point in that? It's not like he had a ton of friends or family to return to?

i think Sayid is in the coffin...after seeing the dangerous job he now has. And maybe the other oceanic 5 hate him because he switched sides and they dont know he is really protecting them..hence..not a friend or family member of jack..and kate saying "why SHOULD i have gone?" like..who cares about that jerk Sayid??

I am thinking Ben in the coffin. I think if it was one of the Oceanic 6 there would have been more publicity about it.

I also think it is Michael on the boat. He was with Ben's group for a while so he could very easily have been brainwashed.

Just had a grand idea! What if the coffin guy is someone Sayid killed!?!?!?!
if so, why would Jack know about the dead guy and why would he think Kate would go see the coffin too?

just curious :) that's why i think it has to be someone from the island like Michael or Locke.

and btw, can Locke even die on the island? hmmmm!

I was just thinking maybe it's one of the people who rescue them or something. Locke does make more sense, be we know how much sense this whole show makes! :D

Michael seems to be the 'obvious' choice for Bens 'man on the boat'...but I don't think so. We *know* that Ben had his own people 'out in the world' - and an expedition like this is something they would have definitely attempted to infiltrate. My guess would be that Ben's 'man on the boat' is an 'other' - wasn't there an 'Arnold' who made an appearance in a Juliette flashback? Maybe him or somebody like him.

As to the 'man in the coffin', my vote goes with Michael. After what Michael did to get off the island, it is easy to see how Kate wouldn't care for the guy. Aside from Walt, he doesn't seem to have much in the way of a family, and the funeral was being held in what looked like a 'black' neighborhood.

Now watch me get proved wrong on both counts here.

I'm thinking coffin guy is Sayid. Newspaper said he killed himself. At the end of epi 3 Ben said they needed to give him a new name. Maybe Sayid couldn't handle the guilt of killing all those people and hung himself.

Boat guy I think is going to be Michael.

I don't think Michael is Boatman, I can't reconcile how it could be.
It just occured to me "I have a man on the boat," could have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Ben knew who they were since he's probably got a man on land as well. So the man on the boat could have done as little as verify what Ben already knew.
