Worship is an attitude of heart and where your focus is. Matthew 6:21 says; For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Who or what is your focus?
Worship takes practice just like anything else. When you worship Jesus, you mind will at first try to wonder and think on other things. It is like the muscles in your body, you need to train it to do what you want it to do. The biggest thing is to make the decision to worship Jesus. Worshiping anything besides the Father, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit does not produce life but the thing will one day be gone. Regular practice of worshiping Jesus will help you get deeper and deeper into His presence.
John 4: 23But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
When we worship, we must worship in spirit. This means that we 1- use our breath (words). 2- line ourselves up with the Spirit of God. Here is the definition of spirit in this verse taken from the Strongs Concordance.
Spirit; 4151. pnyoo´-mah; from 4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by anal. or fig. a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by impl.) vital principle, ment. disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, demon, or (divine) God, Christs spirit, the Holy Spirit: ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. comp. 5590.
Here is the definition of worship from the Strongs also.
Worship; 4352. pros-koo-neh´-o; from 4314 and a probable der. of 2965 (mean. to kiss, like a dog licking his masters hand); to fawn or crouch to, i.e. (lit. or fig.) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to, adore): worship.
Now we worship Him in spirit and truth. The truth part means just that. We worship Him with the truth of who He is and how worthy, holy, awesome and glorious He is. We must use the truth of who He is to properly worship Him and glorify Him.
So set your face as flint before Him seeking His face. Dont turn back and when the thoughts of other things come up while you are seeking His face, push them out and focus on Jesus. Get lost in His presence. Be like Moses, ask Him to see His face. Settle for whatever He shows you, but seek His face. Dont seek after His hands for His blessings. The blessings will come as you seek Him. You have to pass His hands to get to His face, but make sure that His face is your focus.
Find some good worship music that focuses on Him not you or anything else. If you play an instrument then do so and either way lift your voice to Him in total worship. Dont stop until you are there in His presence. Then stay there for a while. Dont go in and jump right out. Sit in His presence for a while.
When you have His Word in your heart and on your mind, then getting into His presence allows His Spirit to put life to the Word in you to bring forth great fruit in your life. Remember, Jesus (the Word John 1:14) did not go forth and accomplish what He was sent forth to do until the Spirit sent Him forth.
