In His Grip
During the shortness of days in this my span of life, I have come to ponder and share the understanding of two words which are astounded and mystified. From time to time we become aware of certain behavioral patterns or actions which at the time seem to carry no profound significance but later we realize they have been birthed through our spirit by Divine appointment to reveal themselves as a true expression of our heart and soul. At times we see actions and hear words and we tag them as "cool" and immediately add them to our repertoire of "in" things to say and do but these are just "add-ons" and not truths that spring from our inner being nor do they validate who we are.
We are a peculiar group of people that loves to live vicariously through the many attachments that we deem as notable, noble and exemplary. Many individuals have been astounded and mystified by the very sight of the Bald Eagle and our bookshelves and walls stand as a witness to our attachment to these awesome creatures. We witness and experience their embodiment of strength and majesty as we study their presence within their domain. When closely looking at the Eagle, one becomes mesmerized by the "eye of the eagle" as it seems to penetrate to the very core of our soul. We wonder what generates that look of determination and resolve? What constitutes the heart and soul of such a creature?
While being the symbol of our nation, "The United States of America," and following the beginning of its journey: From its inauguration, at the signing of our nation's Declaration of Independence, to its representation and signature photo on many of our finest products, to the tear-drop photos of 9-11, and even to its inclusion to the list of endangered species, the Eagle has always embodied those cherished attributes and characteristics which we all would like to personify. Blessed is the moment when we step through the door of desire and are touched and transformed by the reality of these strengths.
I was recently ask, "Why I used the salutation at the end of my correspondences, "In His Grip?" One such person ask if it were a reference to "being in the palm of God's hand?" Another ask if it made reference to being chosen or having been "laid hold upon?" All of these seemed plausible and within reason, but then I asked myself, "why do I?" It was then that the facts surrounded by the thoughts of "astounded and mystified" began to unfold. The Eagle with its telescopic vision makes it a very productive hunter as it often appears as a phantom in the open skies to its subjects. More than one Eagle has been found laying lifeless along a waterfront or shoreline and raised questions of why it had perished. Was it an act of nature, an act of human collision or was it by some act of choice? While all were possible, after studying the traits and skills of the Eagle, it becomes an accepted understanding that most of the fatalities were a result of choice. When the Eagle chooses its subject with its stealth qualities and characteristics, the "moment of contact" is imminent. The Eagles' talons are "locked in" and all systems seems to be a "go," but in some cases the unexpected weight of the subject was more than the Eagle had anticipated or could maneuver and the Eagle was taken to its death in the water. Once the Eagle's talons grasps its subject with the intent to lift, they can not be released and one of its strengths often becomes its death. In contrast, while here on Earth, Jesus gave everything He had to give and when there was nothing of this life remaining to give except His life, He gave just that...His life. That life that now lives has become the hope and encouragement of all that has been the result of a "moment of contact" and while you may seem to be more of a "project" than can be lifted...He will never let go because He is alive and you are "In His Grip."
