If you are like me, you probably like listening to all Contemporary Christian music. But in general, which would you rather listen to? Classic Christian or Current Christian.
Would you rather listen to Petra, Mylon, White Heart, Stryper, Bloodgood, Allies, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and 2nd Chapter of Acts? and why?
Or would you rather listen to Casting Crowns, Building 429, Jeremy Camp, Kutless, Switchfoot, Toby Mac, Seventh Day Slumber, Third Day, and Chris Tomlin? and why?
Also if you could put your age range (I don't expect that a 15-year old would be listening to White Heart, but you never know.)

Given those choices, I'd rather listen to the former. I'm 48 years old. To me, the earlier music seemed more imaginative.

I lean toward harder edged music.

For me it's the second category, especially Switchfoot, Kutless, Jeremy Camp, tobyMac, and Seventh Day Slumber. As for why, I dunno, personal taste I guess - better music and words IMO. A lot of the songs written by the second category are songs that I can relate to and for me that's one of the most important things (along with the music itself) for me with songs. There's not really much point for me in listening to songs that I can't relate to or haven't experienced.

The only thing that annoys me is that the local Christian radio station never plays the songs or styles that I like, and even the ones that I find tolerable they play it that many times that I just switch it off and listen to my iPod instead. :doh:The only times I really listen to the radio now is to the youth shows and 96 five's Hot 25 (and similar count-down programmes), and that's about it.

I'm in the 21-30 age range.

I'm definitely in the Casting Crowns, Building 429, Jeremy Camp, Kutless, Switchfoot, Toby Mac, Seventh Day Slumber, Third Day, and Chris Tomlin category because of when I began to listen to Christian music (about two years ago).

31-40 for me

31-40 and second category with Casting Crowns, Building 429, Jeremy Camp, Kutless, Switchfoot, Toby Mac, Seventh Day Slumber, Third Day, and Chris Tomlin. The first category to me is more worship service music I hear being played at church. I enjoy the more rock sounds and visceral vocals of these more modern artists. It could also be because they play them so frequently on the Christian radio stations by me.

Honestly it depends on how I feel the song is genuine to telling God how much I love Him. Some on both sides I don't like because I don't feel like some artist are Christian at all. Michael w smith and amy grant for another reason, I watched a video on the illuminati and they both had sumblininal messages in their videos like the holding a circle over one eye in one of Michael's videos and Amy Grant putting up the "hail s----n" sign. Of course Amy grant went from Christian to secular back to Christian, but I personally don't like her at all. With modern music I hate hillsong and jesusculture because they are a bunch of wolves. Hillsong is all about money and I don't like that Giglio guy or whatever his name is, not because he was addicted to porn, but because he LIED to everyone and took their money when people had some help him with his cancer fundraiser. Also hillsong church (not sure how closely they are related) are a bunch of liars who twist God's word around so that some stupid pastor can make a profit while he sends people to Hell. JesusCulture's church Pastor is also a heretic. Anywho their music also has always made me feel like it was worldly and non-genuine and I always got a bad vibe from them even before I knew all this stuff..

Anywho, Artist that I DO like are casting Crowns, Philips craig and dean, Laura story, Lecrae, and a few others I just can't think of right now. I love Christian music, it's the only kind I enjoy listening to, but only when it's REAL Christian music. :)

I'm in the 50+ age group.

I listen more to the older Christian music. The only current bands I bother with would be Newsboys/Peter Furler, Crowder, Plumb, Steve Taylor and The Perfect Foil, and maybe Toby Mac. Current Christian radio is so awful I can't bring myself to bother with it. Same tired songs by the same tired artists hour after hour, day after day. This makes me sad, because I actually play in a Christian band (and the praise team at my church), and I know there are good bands out there making really good Christian music. But it will never get played on Christian radio because it doesn't appeal to the soccer moms audience that CCM radio is aimed at.

I'm in the 41-50 group.

I like Christian music of both the old and current variety, but have a harder time finding current Christian music that I like. So much of it sounds bland and generic to me, with bad sound quality and a strong lack of a really good rhythm section.

For older stuff, Mylon, Whiteheart and Allies isn't my cup of tea. For me, I lean in the direction of Glass Harp, Barnabas, 77's, Vector, Prayer Chain, Iona, Jeff Johnson (mostly older) and Saviour Machine.

For current Christian I'm really into a Seattle band called The Opiate Mass. They do some amazing electronic and post rock material. Also listen to a lot of Misty Edwards for the worship side of things. Not much of a Switchfoot guy, though I do like Jon Foreman's solo stuff. Newworldson has some great tunes, but don't care for there Gimme Gimme song. Listen to a little bit of Plumb.

Good stuff there. Daniel Amos, The Choir, Charlie Peacock, and I already mentioned Steve Taylor in my previous post, these were vital to me in realizing there was an entire world out there beyond Amy Grant and the Imperials (not that there's anything wrong with them). "Ping Pong Over The Abyss" was just a revelation to me. And I always recommend "Glass Harp" to anyone who asks about good guitar driven stuff.

I grew up with those as well, even though I never listened to Charlie Peacock's solo material that much. My sister leaned more in the direction of soft pop, so I heard the likes of Amy Grant and Keith Green in the older days. Off hand I can't remember one Imperials song, though I did hear them.

Wasn't aware Steve Taylor had new material. Will check it out.

Yep. He's touring this summer with Peter Furler with his new band The Perfect Foil. I was fortunate to see one of the first dates of the tour when they came to Charlotte. I'm not sure if their album is out yet. If not, it should be soon. Perfect Foil is comprised of John Mark Painter (bass, formerly of Flemming and John and lots of other projects), Jimmy Abbeg (guitar, worked with Charlie Peacock, Rich Mullens and Vector, I think) and Peter Furler (drums, Newsboys). If you get a chance to see them, I hope you will. This was the best concert I've seen in good long while.
