Hello friends,
I love cafes. Love them. I am a connoisseur. And this one, Greasy Jimmys, is one of the best. Its a real place with real people and real food: greasy, buttery, artery-thickening grub.
The waitress has just served me my tea, her manner is sweet and attentive.
"Anything' else, love?'
"No, that's great, thanks.
I have to say, The butter, looks as though its been slapped on with a trowel, and its dripping from my toast on to my chipped plate, which has a withered flower motif that looks like a sauce stain.
I might as well have plastered the butter right on to my belly.
Only kidding, bless her.
Ive decided to take a two week annual holiday from work and I intend to enjoy every minute of it. I just want to tell everyone here at OBOB how happy I am, how content I feel. The girls in this cafe are homely. They smile and make tea for me like they make tea for their old man at home. I have a feeling that when they smile at me its genuine, and when they call me love they mean it.
Im sitting by the window with my lap top, the atmosphere is laid back and peaceful, 'BLISS' wish you were here 'really' anyway as I look out the window I see the beauty of every person every thing, a little girl smiling at me shyly as I catch her eye, a little old women smiling at me kindly, the little dog trodding past humbly with his head down , the trees, the grass. BEAUTIFUL I see God in all this.
The forms and individual characters of these People and living things, of inanimate beings, of animals and flowers and all nature, constitute their holiness in the sight of God.
Their inscape is their sanctity. It is the imprint of His wisdom and His reality in them.
The special beauty of this particular colt on this july day in this cafe under these clouds is a holiness consecrated to God by His own creative wisdom and it declares the glory of God.
The pale flowers of the dog wood outside this window are saints. The little yellow flowers that nobody notices on the edge of the road are saints looking up into the face of God. Dont you see this too?
The leaves stuck to my shoes has their own texture and their own pattern of veins and its own holy shape, and the bass and trout living in the deep pools of the river are canonized by their beauty and their strength.
The lakes hidden among the hills are saints, and the sea too is a saint who praises God without interruption in her majestic dance. I can see it now.
A tree gives glory to God by being a tree. For being what God means it to be it is obeying Him. It "consents" so to speak, to His creative Love. I wish I could always obey Him.
Has anyone seen the advertisement on TV where the lady says " I want to be a tree" Well you never Know.
I think basically what Im trying to say is that each particular being, each particular thing, in its concrete nature and entity, with all its own characteristics and its private qualities and its own inviolable identity gives glory to God.
Each person you see each thing, look for the beauty. Its there, is God not a perfect creator?
Anyway friends, Im finished my tea and Im going to thank the waitress then Im off for a stroll in the countryside, Its a glorious day, I'll say a prayer for you all.
