It's not all bad.......I admit the glitz and the scandals really turn me off, but it says in the Bible that each part of the body needs all the others, we shouldn't say that another part isn't a viable part. In spite of all the stuff, I know that t.v. preachers comfort many lonely people, shut-ins, cheer people up, give them hope. It's also good because people who would be hesitant to set foot in a church can still turn on the t.v. and hear the good news.

It's necessary. I mean, I live in a house with three other people. There is no way we are all going to agree to watch the same thing. In fact, we're usually in our respective rooms watching something entirely different from the other.

Harry Potter. Is it evil or harmless?

On a personal note I would stay away from it because it's the most boring crap ever. I wasted 8 hours yesterday watching ABC Family. They aired the first two movies and it was painfully, horribly, mind-numbingly boring. The whole time I kept expecting it get better and I was thinking, "this is what people raved about?" If the books are as boring as the movies I'll stay far from that too.

I have stayed away from the Harry Potter books. Some people feel they're no different from The Lord of the Rings books (which were written by a devout Christian), but I feel uncomfortable with the fact that apparently they portay actual witchcraft rites in the books. I don't think I need to have my head in that kind of place, as a believer.

Lord of the Rings?

I feel that Lord of the Rings is no different than The Chronicles of Narnia and things like that. I feel that that's safe and I don't see anything really harmful in it.

What about The Golden Compass? How do you feel about the author trying to convert kids to atheism?

(Personally, I'm creeped out. And I do see your point on H.P. I haven't really done much reading on it. But I can definitely see what you're talking about.)

I don't know. I haven't read the book. (I didn't even know it was a book until recently) So, of course I wouldn't have any idea if your statement is true or false. But, my husband wants to take us as a family to see the movie during the kids Christmas break, because it looks amazing. And my daughter told me that it's on their approved Accelerated Reading list at school, so...

I don't think we have many products which were made in America in stores here. But I usually don't even check where some product was made...

The movie "Love Actually"? (I've seen it on TV on the weekend, and I loved it!)

Like remakes of Hichcock films, I think this movie does a great job of devaluing something incredibly valuable by leaving nothing whatever to the imagination. If you live by the Bible, do yourself a favor and skip this one.

That looks very interesting I think that a water powered car is a great idea... Wikipedia says that such cars still need a more conventional energy source, though.

M theory? I watched a special on it on I think the Discovery Chanel. I think it's a fascinating to ponder. But, not being a scientist, I can't really say whether I believe it's even possible. .

And Peter, I didn't mean to imply that I don't like the movie. I actually took quite a long time forming my answer. Writing and rewriting it over and over for probably too long. Personally, I found the part with the son and father to be very poinant as well as the part with the wife and husband who'd drifted apart. I liked other parts too. I did however find the porn stars love story to be in very poor taste and a bit too campy to have really been taken seriously and the adultery story was painful to watch. These themes are ungodly, obviously. And therefor I felt it important to issue a warning to Christians about seeing it. I liked several parts of it. If I could edit out the objectional parts, I would like it fine. Ensemble pieces are seldom good. All the great actors get together and have a great time. But, the movies are usually quite boring and seem to have little cohesion. But, thanks for the note and reps. ...I also want to add, the reason I watched this movie is the same reason I've watched Harry Potter, the Chronicles of Narnia and Pokemon...to see if all the freaking out about it within Christian circles was mass hysteria or an opinion worth listening to. I never form an opinion based on heresay. Otherwise, my opinion would mean nothing.

James Bond? (the movies, the books, the different actors that have played him. The look, the feel, the genre?)

I don't like the James Bond movies and books for one reason: they objectify women. Surprise you there, huh ? But really there's always a beautiful, trampy woman in them and it's just insulting to me. That and some of the plots are ridiculous.

What do you think about Rick Warren and his book The Purpose Driven Life? Is he a fraud or genuine?

What a question!!

When I read it I was hyped up until the end where I felt I was given a task that would be impossilbe for me to keep so that I was left with a deep feeling of discouragment. Still don't know the answer to your question though.

May I propose the same question to the next poster?

What is your opinion of Rick Warren and the book The Purpose Driven life- genuine or fraud?

What is your opinion of Rick Warren and the book The Purpose Driven life- genuine or fraud?
My opinion of the book is that it's "milk", aka a very light overview, geared towards the new Christian or unbeliever.

My opininon of Rick Warren is: What's with the Hawaiian shirts? Doesn't he know they went ot of style in the 70's!? It's distracting!
...Okay, okay, my opinion of him as a preacher/teacher...
I find his style of preaching a little too easy for the seasoned Christian who should, imo, have all this down by the time their faith is a couple of years old if they're daily in the word and in a good, Bible believing/preaching, strong church. But, I think, he feels he's filling a need that the modern day, not so good church has created. So, to answer your question, I think his hearts in the right place. So, I believe he's "genuine", not a "fraud"...as you put it. But, imo he seems better suited to teach children than adults.

What is your opinion of the King James Version of the Bible?

I'm Catholic,so it's not the version of the Bible I use. I do enjoy the early 17th century language, though.

I'm puzzled by people who camp out in the freezing cold for many hours for a chance(just a chance) to buy the latest Nintendo or whatever is the current hot item. What is your opinion of this?

I think it's absolutely riddiculous. I mean, honestly I have better things to do than freeze my butt off for a stupid game. And actually, I still have the PS2. I refuse to buy a new one because if I did, I'd always be buying a new one. I don't see why they have to come out with a new version every 2-3 years. That's just asinine.

The commercialisation of Christmas
I guess as an American, I can't exactly be against commerce. The opportunity to make money in order to live, is why people move here from impoverished countries where it's more difficult. I just wish that prices weren't so highl. Not just for things associated with Christmas. But, for taxes and services and education. For food , and gas and electricity. For basic needs like healthcare!

But, the fact that anything and everything, including Christmas, is used to make a profit, offends people more around Christmas time than any other time of year, just seems a little hypocritical to me.

Everyone is commercial. If they truly didn't want to be, they would become homeless, or take a vow of poverty like a nun or a monk. Because anyone who has a job, or buys anything whatsoever, who complains about this? Is a hypocrit imo.

Religion?
