  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Heh...gotcha'...

Note the bold... "and her doctor"? Why didn't Kerry just strike that and leave between her and God?

Vote Woody 2004! (I'm writing in my own presidential candidate) Actrually, I wish Pat Buchanan had made it...

*---snip---*

Q: Some Catholic archbishops said that it would be a sin to vote for a candidate like you because you support a woman's right to choose an abortion and unlimited stem-cell research. What is your reaction to that?

A: I completely respect their views. I am a Catholic. And I grew up learning how to respect those views. But I disagree with them, as do many. I can't legislate or transfer to another American citizen my article of faith. What is an article of faith for me is not something that I can legislate on somebody who doesn't share that article of faith. I believe that choice is a woman's choice. It's between a woman, God and her doctor. That's why I support that. I will not allow somebody to come in and change Roe v. Wade.

Its funny - he is basically supporting legislation (Roe v. Wade) that supports HIS "article of faith."
Mr Kerry I do not share your article of faith that abortion is a choice. How can you make it legal?

The argument he uses is absolutely pitiful.

Let's look at the logic here:

I completely respect their views. (Setting up a dichotomy)
I am a Catholic. (Yet you disagree?)
I disagree with them. (Them? = the Church, her teachings, or this particular teaching?)

What is an article of faith for me. (But you disagree, Sen. Kerry)
Not something I can legislate. (Wanna make a bet?)
It's between a woman, God, and her doctor. (Says who? You?)

Let's pray the rosary for Sen. Kerry and his soul.

I just cannot believe how many people buy into his argument.

When you make a law that concerns something "moral" (i.e. not a tax law etc.), you are LEGISLATING MORALITY.

Making murder illegal is legislating morality.
Some people, (e.g. the Mafia) are all about vendetta killing, blood fueds and they think this is not bad, it is justified. A lot of people probably think its alright to kill out of revenge.
Well no, its not. Murder is illegal in this countrty. Thats legislating morality.
And when some make a certain type of murder LEGAL (of an innocent child that never hurt anyone, its only cruime was being inconvenient) how in the world does Kerry think thats NOT legislating morality?

I can't believe how people can be conned so easily in our society. People don't know HOW to think. It's an art and science that should be taught in HS.

I had this argument with a democrat I work with. He argues that the Church (meaning the Catholic church, the Pope, and the Vatican) cannot make people choose a candidate based on what the "Church" teaches. I told him that neither the Pope, nor the Vatican cannot and should not push someone to vote for a candidate or make the candidate for that matter choose. That is up to each individual to choose what they believe. However, by someone voting for a pro-choice abortion candidate they in fact are going against what the church teaches and therefore would be making a direct sin against God on the matter. He shut up after that and wouldn't say any more.

Does that make sense?

John Kerry Flip-Flops on When to Use His Catholic Belief on Politics

Excerpt:
In his NewsMax.com column, Father Reilly noticed the contradiction in the two statements.
"So for Kerry, it's not appropriate for faith to influence his views on abortion ... but it's the driving force behind his positions on poverty and the environment," Reilly wrote.

Father Reilly said science should show Kerry the obvious point that life begins at conception.

"The truth is, for Sen. Kerry, neither faith nor science has much to do with his position on abortion," Father Reilly wrote.

What does the Bible say about Abortion?
Life? When you know what the Bible says, and you know what the candidates stand for. It won't be hard to decide who to vote for.

That about sums it up in a nutshell.

Which goes to prove: the show ain't over 'til the Hat Lady sings!

I have already voted...and I voted for Bush. I find it very disconcerting when a candidate values his political reputation more than he does his faith and the values of the Christian faith. John Kerry wants votes and he will say anything to please the crowd and get the votes. May God have mercy on him.

I saw a Kerry sticker at our parish too. I waited for them to come out and asked them point blank, why they support John Kerry.

"cause he's Catholic" was their answer.

:(
Which, for me, is all the more reason why he needs to be excommunicated.

By the way, I just voted for Bush. Myself and 4 others have been campaigning all weekend for Bush, in the 72 hour push.
