Usually I'm a laid-back person...but today I'm seeing red:mad: (and that doesn't do justice to my anger)

I work for a university. In the past few weeks, there have been chalk scrawls on the ground about "equal rights" and proposal 2. So I'm walking across campus today...and today they went too far!!! They were quoting scripture! They were writing that Jesus is for equal rights and that Jesus loves equal rights. Although it is not explicitly mentioned, this is for the equal rights of homosexuals (which there are apparently a lot of on this campus).

I don't mind if they whine and cry about not having special rights above everyone else, but when they try to use scripture to support themselves...that's when I lose it!

You may want to pray that I don't do something stupid. At the moment, I'm seriously considering taking some chalk and writing my scripture down!

Thanks for listening:)

I wonder how many of these people are actually Christian. If you are not Christian then you have to believe that Jesus was either the devil or a crazy man. You can't just take some of His teachings (the convenient ones) and reject others. You accept them all or reject them all.

I forgot to add that my experience was also a gay rights thing. "Jesus loves lesbians too" is what was scribbled in chalk on the pavement. Well, doesn't Jesus love everyone? Yes, that does not mean He approves of their sin!!!!! And that was the message implied behind this, that He approves of their sin, and that got me so mad!
:amen: again!

That's really sad. You can get Scripture to say just about anything that you want, but that doesn't mean that it's actually what it says.

Connotations and implications don't seem as important to me as the basic message, and I think there's a lot more danger of people forgetting that Jesus loves these people than of them forgetting anything else.

I think there is more danger from these messages that people will think that Christ sanctioned homosexual activity. Most people have no idea what the Bible really says anymore. They take these little passages out of context and make it seem like Christians are the ones who are confused about Christ's teachings, and that the rest of the world has it right.

Or in other words, Jesus loves you just the way you are, but He loves you too much to leave you in that condition ;)

Okay, so new development. I think I know who is writing the scribbles. My thought is to ask them first and then point out how their scriptures are used incorrectly. If I do that, then I have to remember to control myself, not allow my emotions get the better of me (especially since I'm already fuming!).

My other thought is just to pray really really hard for lots and lots of rain...the kind of rain that washes away chalk. That's the coward side of me comig out.

So what would you do if you were in my shoes?

Ya know what's really depressing about all of this? It seems like I'm the only one who cares. I know that's not true...but where are the scrawls that refute their writing??? Actually, I'm probably one of the few people that actually take the time to read side-walk scribble...but still, where are the people who represent the Lord? I can't be the only one that's this upset.

Yeah, I don't think Carina would appreciate that:)

I know it stinks for you right now seeing this. Even Satan used scripture wrongly against Jesus Luke 4.

We all need to pray for them to see the truth. :prayer:
Thank you. Yes, you are right, we do. Thank you for reminding me. Not that I'm in a "I hate you" mode...but I'm certainly not pleased that scripture was twisted the way it was. Of course, chances are that this twisting has been passed down to them and they've never really read the verses.:sigh:

I would love to say that I would find the person and discuss the real meaning of the scriptures with them, but I know I might lose my cool, so I would probably chicken out for the sake of not defaming Christ's name.

But I would probably take some time to write a letter to the editor of the school paper stating the real meanings of the scriptures you've seen used.

Bring your Bible. If it's convenient tell us what scriptures they are using then mabey we can help you form a conversation that keeps you cool.

I should have an opportunity in the mornin'. I'll bring my notebook and start writing things down.

One, just off the top of my head is about us being made in his image and likeness.

How about some good scripture verses to help her out?

John 5:24 "I assure you: Anyone who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment, but has passed from death to life."

John 6:37 Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hey, how about the Romans Road? You could write that in chalk on sidewalks all over campus!
