I am sick with autoimmune disease and fear my time is going to pass this year. However, my brother is not Christian and does not believe like I do and says that when we die we are no longer conscious and everything is darkness and we won't be aware. That scares me. I don't want to die if that is true!!

How can I be sure there is a heaven? I believe in Jesus and I am saved--but what if there is no heaven when we die? I'm scared.

You have a right to be scared. It's the great unknown that is scary. Throughout history, this fear has held a powerful sway over men's thinking. That's why the promise of eternal life offered by Jesus is such a powerful corrective or solution.

Today, too many people think his purpose was only to teach us to be nice, etc. It wasn't.

The whole of the crucifixion, death, resurrection, and ascension saga is aimed at offering you hope. Of course, we still remain ignorant of what exactly lies ahead. But by Faith, we trust Christ, as he asked us to do.

I feared death for a long time. I even said the same as you. "I want to go to heaven, but what if I am wrong and its darkness like non-believers say?!?". As I grew in my faith I stopped caring about what others said would happen because God is real and thus heaven/hell are real. I knew I had nothing to fear. Fear just leads to other issues in life and as a christian. Fear is the devils great tool. While we shouldn't provoke people and get them mad (as its a sin), what I tell people sometimeswho say "What if theres nothing, then you wasted your life!", I reply "What if your wrong and there is something? You can't change your views once dead! So you wasted your life". Sometimes I'll say theres a 50/50 chance theres nothing or something. Do you want to place your life after death on a bet of 50/50? Those are terrible odds! If your wrong its an eternity in hell!". THough I don't say that much anymore because it makes it sound like a gamble thing as if I don't believe or something. But I try to make it so they understand what a big risk they are taking.

Needless to say focus on God and His promises. Don't let others distract you or make you question God. They are just mortal men, God is God. He knows whats the truth.

* pinkjess:
Your brother, I'm sorry he isn't more of a comfort to you.

I've heard some awful things said by the unsaved when I was too was experiencing many difficulties...to be honest, I've heard the like from believers, which is
sad.

I've worked as a caregiver/CNA for more than
two decades (privately and professionally) -- spent time caring for Hospice patients as well.
I've been with many people who were on their deathbed(s.)

All of them went through some form of fear...
and or uncertainty.

life, death and eternal life:
Genesis 2:7
1 Corinthians 6:14
1 Corinthians 15:20-22
1 Corinthians 15:35-50
John 3:36

How can I be sure there is a heaven? I believe in Jesus and I am saved--but what if there is no heaven when we die? I'm scared.

* "what if"?
Look into the Bible...renew your mind upon truth...
put on the full armor of God each day to battle the fiery
darts from the "enemy".

Partnering...
Get connected with mature Christians, you need
support from other believers...prayer partners, mentors etc.
Ask your minister to help you connect with the right ones.

Scripture reveals Jesus was without sin...Hebrews 4:15. So Jesus spoke truthfully, he obeyed God and
did all His heavenly Father commanded.

The liar/deceiver/adversary is the devil(Lucifer)...
he's called the father of lies...John 8:44.

Our Lord mentions heaven in Matthew 18:10
"See that you do not look down on any of these
little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven
always see the face of my Father in heaven."

Jesus is in Heaven....according to Mark 16:19.

John 14:6. The Father is in Heaven.

John 3:16-17. You are saved to eternal life in Heaven.

John 5:24. You will cross from passing away to passing into eternal life in Heaven.

See you in Heaven.

Share this with your brother. If he so desires, he can enter the conversation mode with me. Romans 10:8-13.

Maybe it's true for him, as he does not believe in Christ, as opposed to you, who does, and therefore has been promised not to perish but to live.

Now my father died more than a year ago, he was not a believer in Christ.
But who knows what happens on the brink of death?
Also i have prayed hard, when he was about to die.
"Please take care of my father" is what i prayed.
What more can you do?
But somehow i feel good about his fate in the hereafter.
I believe i will see him there.
Because God is a loving God, who wants to save the world.
In one man the world fell, but in One Man the world is reconciled with God.

Anihilation is meant for the devil and his gang of demons, and maybe for their wicked human fans, or folks like Stalin or Hitler.

Annihilation is not God's plan with man.

I don't know...
There's a lot to suggest otherwise perhaps, but God will do justice.
How can I be sure there is a heaven? I believe in Jesus and I am saved--but what if there is no heaven when we die? I'm scared.
I understand your anxiety.

But God gave his only begotten Son, He died on the cross to pay all our debts.
So that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but live forever in Gods Kingdom in Heaven.

Christ's witnesses have died for this testimony.
Make a little effort to put your life in His hands, trust Him.
God made man not to perish.

Pray to God for your brother.

i hope this helps a little.

Jess,
I first want to say how very sorry I am that you are dealing with this kind of a situation. My heart is just hurting for you.
The fear you have is normal. Christians can also have moments of fear and doubt.

My prayer for you first and foremost is that you would be healed of all disease and that your body would become strong and whole so that you can live out a full life. Sometimes God has other plans. My hope is that He intends to bring you healing and that this will plant a seed in your brother's heart so that he too would come to know Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

If for whatever reason, the Lord has decided that He wants you to be where He is, then my prayer is that until then, your mind and heart would be so full of peace and joy that it flows out of you and touches your precious brother in a profound way.

Regardless of why you are sick, you have a unique opportunity; one few of us ever get, and that is to allow the Lord to fill you with his holy Spirit and that you take every opportunity to tell your brother of the Love of Christ.

Father God, I give you Pink Jess. She needs You now as never before. Lord, ease her suffering. Hold her in your loving arms and comfort her. Give her the peace that passes understanding. Fill her heart with joy and stand between her and fear. Protect her from fear. Lord, I pray that You are merciful to this precious daughter and that You touch her body and heal her from the top of her head to the souls of her feet. Make her whole and give her a calling. Lord, touch her brother and reveal Yourself to him. You know better than anyone how to get through to this brother, and I trust; I know; I expect You to draw this young man to You and reveal your love to him through your Son, Jesus. Send heavenly messengers, Lord. Send witnesses, friends, strangers to this brother and sister. Surround them with people that love You and your Son in Jesus' name. Amen.

Isaiah 41:9-10, 13
. . . . For Pink Jess, I have chosen you and will not throw you away.
10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
13 For I hold you by your right hand— I, the Lord your God. And I say to you,
‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.

says that when we die we are no longer conscious and everything is darkness and we won't be aware. That scares me. I don't want to die if that is true!!

How can I be sure there is a heaven? I believe in Jesus and I am saved--but what if there is no heaven when we die? I'm scared.
There are a couple of ways to approach this. First, if death is simply annihilation with no further consciousness, then there really isn't anything to fear, long-term, right? The only thing to deal with is the idea of losing everything you love in this life, and then going through the ordeal of dying itself. But once that ordeal is over, it's all over.

But while that sounds cut and dried, it's not a terribly positive or satisfying outlook. We go through all the trials here on earth, only to have to face the one last trial, dying, and then it's lights out? Seems ridiculously inappropriate considering the level of sublime consciousness, particularly including the ability to love, that we are capable of.

That brings us to the matter of life itself, and its meaning. If there is no God, or if God is a mere force, He could not have created us with all the complexity and depth of our spiritual dimension. It took an intelligent personal Being to create intelligent personal beings. We are created in His image, just as the Bible states.

Now, if there is such a God - and I consider the foregoing argument to be conclusive - then the next question is whether He would He leave us in futility for all eternity. This is where the Gospel provides answers that satisfy. God is love, and He sent His only Son to give Himself in satisfaction for our sin, in order to rescue us from such a cruel eternal fate. This is by far the best answer I have found to the question of life.

There are other benefits as well. Hebrews tells us:

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. -Heb 2:14-15

Because we have been given victory over death, we need no longer fear it. That frees us up to live life to its fullest, even here and now. The Christian life has its own set of difficulties and trials, to be sure, and they can indeed be great. But at the same time being in Christ raises us to a level of living we never could have attained to without Christ, even here and now.
