Hey guys,

Blessings in Christ Jesus!

I'm doing a study on world religions and need to know what does your religion feel about the Jews... are they still the chosen people... or do Christians and Christianity replace them?

thanks!! :)

It's like asking what does "our religion" believe about Baptism -- there are different views. You are referring to Replacement Theology. It is not a core doctrine of Pentecostals or Protestants. It's primarily for people who are interested in end time theology. Various theologians give various opinions on how verses of the Bible on the end times should be interpreted. Most Christians do not study end time theology at the level of taking a position on Replacement Theology. Most do not have a fully developed system of thought on how end time events will transpire.

However, Replacement Theology has nothing to do with anti-Semitism. I think it is obvious that the vast majority of Christians, at least Protestant (I'm as familiar with the Catholic view on this issue), support the nation of Israel. Since the recreation of the state of Israel in 1948, a wrench was thrown into a lot of Replacement Theology theory -- so its meaning then had to be represented as consistent with the state extant.

Replacement Theology has a lot of angles, and even motives for supporting favorite views on other aspects of theology, and it goes on and on. You could do a web search on it. It takes quite a bit of time to learn about it. Then, you might want to formulate some questions that are more specific.

Wow... thanks MPaul! Your reply actually helps me a lot.

Just so you know... The reason I asked was because recently I have come across Messianic Jews who have said to me that some Christians don't believe that Jews have a chance at salvation anymore and/or that Christianity replaces Judaism.

In other words that when a Jew places his/her faith in Jesus Christ he/she stops being Jewish and becomes Christian (replacement theology??)

This baffled me and I decided to do this study... I appreciate anymore input and/or clarifications... :)

Blessings in Christ Jesus,
Lorry

Hmm... that could be something very different. Jews very often have been taught a great deal about religion and the Bible. Before they come to Christ, they can have very strong beliefs about what it means to be Jewish or Christian. Then, on accepting Christ, these other beliefs just do not go away -- but they have an affect on how Jewish Christians view things. Thus, when an issue is brought up by them, at times one has to wonder if there really is not another issue behind it -- usually involving identity or general attitudes. It can all get very delicate and involve another type of logic.

Good point... something to consider seriously.
