Hello. For almost 6 months now I'm a newborn Christian. I love Jesus! I'm 18 years old and female. I'm not from America so my English isn't perfect =). And I have 3 questions about the scripture in the bible. I don't understand everything yet in the bible so please don't be angry if I write something wrong.

Question nr. 1:
1 Timotheus chapter 3 Paulus writes that woman aren't allowed to preach in the church, they need to be silent in church. Have you heard about the famous faith healer Kathryn Kuhlman in America? She was a woman of God. There are many other female preacher in the world. So can a woman preach the gospel in Jesus name? The scripture says no (??).

Question nr. 2/3:
1 Corinthians chapter 7 An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. 33 But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— 34 and his interests are divided. So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does better. = so a woman/man don't need to marry if they only want to serve God. They are whole with Jesus. The scripture tells us in the end that's it's even better if a woman/man doesn't marry.

BUT: 1 Corinthians chapter 11 11Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. = this confuses me. This scripture means to me that a woman/man can only be whole with the opposite sex. But 1 Corinthians chapter 7 tells that we don't need to marry (it's even better if we stay by our own tells the scripture).

Paul says he wishes people were single, he says that as his opinion, nota a command from God. Marriage is celebrated in the Bible.

So can a woman preach the gospel in Jesus name?

The culture within which you live will determine very much how you interpret scripture.

But Paul too was writing from within a culture - a culture that was male dominated.

In many parts of the world men still dominate so if you are from such parts you will have a hard time interpreting Paul.

However, all that aside here is my take. Do what you want. If you want to marry - go for it. If you want to stay single that too is your choice. If you want to teach and preach you can do that too.

Yes that is what the verse says when it comes to positions of authority in the church. Yes, if you want to be 100% biblical Kathryn Kuhlman probably was in breach of the Biblical pattern, however women can have certain kinds of authority in the church.

Why Silent? The problem is with authority of scripture more than with sound. In the early times the only Bibles were community owned, not individually owned. A man selected to read the Torah would stand up in the synagogue and read to everyone, and everyone else had to be silent while he read. At that time the man had authority in the synagogue as he was entrusted with the Torah reading. That is why your verse talks about silence and authority. It is saying the women should not be the readers. Even though the word used is 'Silence' it seems Paul is more concerned with the authority of reading the scripture in the church. He doesn't think the women should be doing the reading. The Torah is the highest authority and for some reason was to be read aloud by males. This has something to do with the Garden of Eden story. While the women were not the readers, I do think they were entrusted with other positions of authority. Just not the reading of Torah.

Is the verse genuine? I think this verse is genuine whether or not others have been altered. This verse was written so long ago that most people forgot why the rule was made, and there are many modern theories. Some scholars believe many new testament verses about women were edited to remove the influence of women, and they could be right. They cite manuscript differences and also places where the names of female leaders are changed to male names. Their arguments are persuasive -- but not perfect. The verse you ask about has something to do with the story of the garden of eden, but that is all the scripture directly says about it. It doesn't explain why the garden of eden story has any bearing, however that lack of explanation is in its favor. It is a reason to trust that this particular scripture is genuine, because it assumes an understanding of the garden of eden. A late addition probably wouldn't do that, and it fits historically with the way synagogues worked.

No, this does not at all mean being single is better. Paul is answering a question concerning a predicament the men were in [see verse 26] The question pertained to Jewish laws about how to treat a betrothed. You can tell it is about Jewish marriage laws because of I Corinthians 7:2 which mentions a woman's "Conjugal rights". [see Exodus 21:10] In this passage the men's lives and/or financial stability were in danger, probably due to persecution. They wrote to Paul to ask if they should still honor their marriage betrothals. This was an extremely serious decision was for them, because of Deuteronomy [Deuteronomy 20:7, 24:5] lays down the principle that a man can't just marry a woman; he has to make her happy for the first year. A Jewish man was required to give his wife a full year's honeymoon and was not permitted for his newlywed's sake to do anything dangerous for the entire year, or travel on business, or do work! Jewish men newly married were excused from all dangerous duty, especially the military. The men who wrote to Paul were already betrothed and since the danger came unexpectedly, they were not sure whether it was right to marry or not under the circumstances. In these times of distress, his opinion was that they should wait if possible but that the decision was up to them. Under normal circumstances there would have been no question that they should get married.

Women can and should preach.
To be the leader of a group, I disagree completely.
Scripturally speaking Paul was against the idea.
And the other one says it is good to be unmarried, if you can handle it.
The reason for this is you can focus on Gods gospel.
But if you burn with passion it is good for you to be married.
It is better to be married then to have it consume your thoughts.
Also it is silly to think you can't be whole without a man.
Your salvation is for your soul only.
You could be saved, but your husband could be unsaved and vice versa.
