  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

CarrieAg93, welcome to the world of knitting. I consider myself a knitting novice. I know basic knit and purl and have made 2 scarves since I picked up knitting in the past few months. I know I want to try something more complex, although I find myself a bit intimidated. You're taking classes? Now that would be awesome. I wish there were some offered here. Have you ever explored www.lionbrand.com there are a lot of knittting (and crocheting) patterns there. They also have some instructions, good thing I had to use them to bind off on my first scarf. I didn't think my mom wanted a knitting needle left on hers. :) I also love the yarns there, which can be purchased in a lot of stores around the states.
Have fun.

Thanks for the link Hischild. I will check it out. I'm impressed that you taught yourself to knit. I am a visual person I needed someone to show me. The city where I live offers different classes for pretty cheap. I really just signed up to learn something new, but like I said I'm really enjoying it. Our teacher says we're ready knit a scarf and next week we're learning to read patterns so maybe I'll be doing something else soon. Apparently there is a Knitting Guild of America that has chapters all over. Maybe you could hook up with them for support and ideas for projects or lessons for you, AveMaria.

I knit and crochet, and probably am a little better at the crocheting - between the two. I enjoy both, though. It can be an addiction, and I have found that a favorite pattern of mine (knitted) has made it to about four very large afghans. Afghans are my favorite things to do during the winter months, of course. I keep stay warm while working on them! ;)

i love to knit -in the round! i use the circular needles and make hats @ christmas time..takes about a week to finish one for me but i love giving them out! people love hand knitted cotton caps..and its so easy!!! i only began knitting 2 years ago,and i learned by video and knitting books. it IS addicting,i have more yarn than i know what to do with. a neat thing to do is just knit in the round every few rows-tie on another color. these make awesome unique hats.i knit about 60 (cast on)..then knit about as long as i think it should be.rolled up their very stylish, and guys like em long and floppy.TRY IT! tell me how it goes!

Good thread.

I just started to learn to knit. I just went to my second class out of my four class course. Like CarrieAg, I'm already addicted. I've learned how to cast on, knit and purl and very anxious to learn more. Increasing stiches, decreasing, binding off, etc., etc. How do you switch from different color yarn in the middle?? I know that I'll be learning binding off (as we're making a hat and a scarf in the class), but I think I'll be picking up a book and getting info online to persure more stiches and what not.

For classes, check out Michael's of AC Moore or the like. I know Michael's offers a crochet and knitting classes. Check out their website (I was just there browsing). If you're looking to help out some people, here's a link for "Warm Up America" and "Blankets for Canada" that even us beginners probably can handle. ;)

I love to knit and crochet. I have been knitting since I was 8 years old. I have been crocheting since I was 10. I love to try different kinds of stitches all the time! I also love to create my own designs, if I can find one in my books or the internet. I knit and crochet for Barbie, Ken and Magic Attic Dolls. I teach knitting and crochet to Teen Group. I belong to a Prayer Shawl Ministry.

You are going to find tons and tons of free patterns on the internet. I know you are going to years and years of enjoyment in knitting.
