• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

the scientifically ascertained and verified facts of hypnotism constitute an important goupp of confirmations of certain aspects of mentalism/materialism for when the operator makes his subject see a coloured playing-card when there is only a blank piece of paper before him he is making him see what obviously exists only as a mental picture,a thought. And when the subject is told he is standing beside a furnace and then breaks out into actual perspiration,he is demonstrating that it is perfectly possible for a thought to register on the nerve system,on the senses and in the brain in a way that the untutured believe to be possible only to physical experiences. And when he is made by suggestion to see a wall confronting him, what is this but a vivid demonstration of the fact that mental constructions can be seen outside the body.spatially-[Brunton] - more later - twinc

you talk an awful lot about scientific studies without providing any examples. it'd definitely be more helpful if you linked a couple of them. but it sounds like you're talking predominately about this - Suggestibility - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaHypnotic susceptibility - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. if so, what point are you trying to make exactly?

some get it straight away,it seems, with some others it takes a bit longer - so hang about a bit and hopefully it will dawn for you too - twinc

I think of hypnosis, or the hypnotic state, as the "bypassing of critical judgement".

Is that what happens when one believes in gods?

I agree that hypnotism can do strange things, but I'm not sure exactly what point you are trying to make from it all. :)
I think that the idea is that hypnotism is just like schizophrenia, and that inductions, suggestions etc are malign. That is certainly not the case with medical hypnosis at least which is therapeutic, helpful.

but whatever else it may be it is mental for sure and not material - there just is no matter no matter what - twinc
