Those looking for the "Beulah Land" had to keep "oil in their lamps" to gain entrance.... As 2 Peter 1:10 says: "if ye do these things, ye shall never fall" from the "heavenly gift".

Little known bleechers tidbit: After being saved and coming out of that other religion... I spent over a year in the Assemblies of God... One of the main reasons I left was over the doctrine of OSAS. I have noticed that people who deny that doctrine tend to slide back into law-keeping (IMHO) in an attempt to "maintain" their "free gift".
