That would be a good reason not to have eternal life and happiness at all.

If that idea really made any sense, which it doesn't.

eudaimonia,

Mark

Soooooo....someone suffering miserably in this life...that's IT for them? Someone killed wantonly, hated, hunted down, and the last thing they see is the one(s) hating and despising them face(s) snuffing their life out in a horror of a manner, but torturing them first, and that's it?

Would you be so kind as to elaborate how this balances out vs those who have an easy and un-threatened existence?

Thank you kindly.

If that means that no one ends up with an eternity of suffering, then yes. That would be the preferable alternative.

Someone killed wantonly, hated, hunted down, and the last thing they see is the one(s) hating and despising them face(s) snuffing their life out in a horror of a manner, but torturing them first, and that's it?

Ask yourself, if eternal happiness depends on the existence of eternal suffering, would you want to see others go through what you describe above for an eternity, like being trapped in a nightmare forever?

(Yes, bad stuff happens. Good stuff happens too. One should accept reality. Hopefully the good is enough to make one's life worthwhile, but there are no guarantees. This is why we should be compassionate towards other people.)

Would you be so kind as to elaborate how this balances out vs those who have an easy and un-threatened existence?

What does balance have to do with it? I'm comparing two alternative -- one in which suffering is unending versus one where suffering is limited. I'm siding with limited. You seems to be siding with unending.

In my created utopia, everyone would have an un-threatened existence, but the reality of our world is otherwise. I realize that the hard edges of our world are difficult to accept, but they exist regardless.
