(Not really an ethics/morality question. I post it here only because most of you bots I interact with hang around in E&M. :D )

I don't see why it would make a difference if everyone here were bots. You either like the conversation or you don't. I suppose if you had ambitions on meeting people from here then I guess it might be a problem, but otherwise, no.

I would like to meet the designer of these bots though, so we could discuss how to fix the programming bugs. I mean, not even a human could rehash the same threads and the same arguments on homosexuality this many times, could they?

Yes, that´s how I basically feel about it, too.
Then again, there are those posters who keep posting like poorly programmed bots, anyways.
Often I find myself paying attention and responding to them "because they have feelings, after all", which wouldn´t be a criterium if they were bots.
So I suspect that I´d stop responding to those who appear to be poorly programmed. One trick ponies and such. :)

Well, for me it´s not so much about meeting people, but about considering points of view that deserve to be taken seriously. As soon as there are real people involved, my focus seems to shift - I am inclined to take individual feelings into account.

Indeed, I would expect there to be a wider range of creativity in dealing with the same old if there were real people at work. :D

Haha, as much as I try to boycott the one trick ponies threads, you just can't help yourself sometimes! I wonder, if for example, how many people would respond to an SOF thread if we knew he was a bot. Probably not as many, so yes, you're probably right, it might make some sort of difference.

Also, some peoples views on life in E&M seem so far out there that it is hard to believe they are human, so I guess if they were bots I might find their posts less interesting to read, if that makes sense.

DOES NOT COMPUTE

Code:
int factorial(int sum) {
if (sum == 1) return 1;
if (sum != 1)
return product(sum,
factorial(sum - 1)); }

I would be really angry because it would seem like a big waste of my time. Afterall, my goal here is relationship evangelism. :D That means, when God reaches down to one of you at some point, I hope you will remember me and come talk to me as someone you trust to answer your questions honestly.

<<user>>, how does this make you feel?

Why would you not consider otherwise not replying/posting or not reading all posts on CF (except for yours, of course) are written by bots.

<<user>>, please explain further why you feel this way on the subject. </b>

Initially, I would be quite impressed. I would likely post more often to see what kind of responses I would receive from the bots,

After awhile, I would probably get bored. In the same fashion as when thread live too long with the same arguments rehashed endlessly.

I would keep going. I find my interactions here meaningful, whether y'all are real or not

I wonder, if for example, how many people would respond to an SOF thread if we knew he was a bot. Probably not as many, so yes, you're probably right, it might make some sort of difference.

You might not have been around here when it was going on, but there was a particular username that everyone was certain beyond any shred of doubt was a bot ... and it always ended up garnering long-running threads, quite often with people saying things like "stop responding, it's a bot" :D So based just on personal experience at this forum I would have to say if we knew that one specific username was a bot, we'd likely see their threads getting more attention rather than less lol.

I agree with Quatona that while thinking about the OP I realize that I almost certainly 'tone down' and pay more attention to some threads simply because I accept that their is a thinking and feeling person behind the username. If I knew that everyone else besides myself was a bot though I doubt I would hold back at all in the face of the massive idiocy and derangement contained within E&M (and CF in general). Even if that meant the bot-moderators would ban me ;)

I usually don't creep in here, but this post intrigued me.

If it turned out everyone on CF but me were bots, I would keep visiting and posting, probably more often than the once in a blue moon I do right now. I'd be interested in how well they were programmed, what they could respond to, et cetera. However, I'd probably also be a little down that a bunch of people I wanted to meet were, in fact, fake.
