  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please suugest to me the best book that you have ever read concerning the spiritual life. Pretend it is the only thing that you could read for a week, as you are in the mountains, on a long trip and supplies are limited.

That is what is happening to me, and i can only take one book, I want to take a book that I have never read, but I want to make sure it is great, so please suggest and tell me why you are suggesting it. Thanks in advance:)

"The Jesus I never knew" by Philip Yancey.

it IS as the title says, you'll be surprised by the insights provided. Yancey is a journalist, so he is able to look at Jesus (Christmas, the sermon of the mount, his birth, his death.. etc) from various different angles. He also did a lot of research, cross referencing to history, real life and nowaday events.

i know it isn't a devotional book, but it has helped me tremendously with my walk. I'm currently re-reading it.

Hi Wanderer977!

How great to go up a mountain and get to read a book - sounds like heaven to me!

Yep - Philip Yancey is cool...and I would second the above suggestion - or indeed any book by him.

But for me - it would have to be anything by Mike Yaconelli - funny, insightful, deceptively easy to read whilst making truly profound points - faith that is real - and that can make a difference.

Although, is this a trick question?... I would have the Amplified Bible and Red Moon Rising, or The Spiritual Man by Watchman Nee, or The Prophetic Worshipper by Pablo Perez, or Enter the Worship Circle by Ben Pasly, or The Book of Isaiah. Owweee! Peace.

By the way, this was not intended to be a trick question. Guess, at this point I take for granted that you would have a Bible with you.

I meant a book written by mere man. I would have to agree anything by Yancey would be great. I absolutely love him. And I also agree that "Jesus I never Knew" is his best work.

The idea was to get a list of must read books. So much out there is pure fluff or just made for commercial reasons. I wante to know what books had truly left there mark.
