If it didn't happen as some say it didn't, there was no jews who lived in slavery, no escape from Egypt, etc..........

Or perhaps there is some historical truth to the story, but it did not happen exactly how it was depicted in the bible.

How would this affect your faith as a Christian?

Don't know if were allowed to bump our own threads...........

Anyways I do hope that I get responses about this from other Christians, because whether or not (or how much) the Exodus is historical, and how it affects my faith, is a question I have been asking myself recently.

I came to the conclusion that if the Exodus did not happen, or at least not in the way the bible portrays it, that I would still have faith in Jesus, because the fact that Jesus resurrected and saved us from sin, should not hinge on whether or not Exodus is historical.

What do you guys think about your faith and its relation to the exodus and whether or not it happened?

i believe the exodus happened!

i believe that the scripture cannot be broken (jn 10:35)

it's interesting that in this age of reasoning, i find that many "christians" are willing to shelve biblical truth in place of secular ridicule.

i've heard some say:

- that the don't really believe that Jesus was born of a virgin

- or that the sun standing still in joshua's day is foolish

- not to mention that some believe that the book of revelation is akin to a fairy tale

- there's no proof that moses or Jesus even existed

- Jesus is not God, just a "good" man

- paul is not a true apostle

- the devil is a myth

- the bible is not inspied

and the list goes on and on.

but just as they didn't believe the flood was coming in noah's day, we see the same attitude arising in these "end times" - scoffers will come in the last days!

let'em come!

i, however, believe what's written in God's word!

Reminds me of the comparison of "trampoline Christianity" vs. "brick wall Christianity".

For what it's worth, if more evidence were to surface that invited us to re-examine the Exodus narrative and find it inaccurate, I don't think it would necessarily matter for me because Christ was still an example of a more compelling way to live by loving those whom society had rejected, helping the poor and the oppressed and the sick and the lame. Whether or not certain stories in the scriptures ring factually true have no bearing on that.

You are correct to say that faith in Jesus should not hinge on historical Exodus, however, it is equally true to say that the fact of a historical Exodus does hinge on the truth of Jesus.

For example: Jesus observed Passover, He affirmed the burning bush incident (Mt. 12:26), He affirmed the manna in the wilderness (Jn. 6:49), and He followed Israel in the wilderness and gave them drink (Ex. 17:6, I Cor. 10:4), etc.

Numerous times in the Old Testament, Israel was chided by God for not believing His power He displayed against Egypt (e.g. Deuteronomy 32:18 KJV Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee. & Psalms 106:21 KJV They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt.)

So, in summary, I believe in historical Exodus because Christ not only believed it, but was also there when it happened.
