you want sympathy thats the reason for this whole topic isnt it. Poor us we are being oppressed no one protects our rights. Personaly i dont find this offencive. Im sick of people trying to get pitty off of others beacuse aparently everyone is apressing their rights. Muslems with their but the burgerking symbol kind of looks like the word allha if its jumbled up. And you with your hatred of monty python's life of brian. It is blasfamy to declair objection on religiouse grounds to satasfy your own opinion. It wasnt a yea i love the film but its bad for christians. No you dont like the film so you say its bad.

You were fishing for sympathy with the muslems dont get abuse. Well your obiously wrong. Muslems put up with the same ammount of sh*** as all the rest of us. If not more. When was the last time someone spraypainted kill the christians on a notice board wait lets think when was the last time someone was murdered for being a muslem in a subosidly stable country. Dont quote the middle east or anywhere i said stable. Muslems are being killed beacuse of terrorist attacks but you find a film offencive so we should all stop and comfort you. Personaly i hate the film the passion as i belive it stirs up anti semitic feelings but that my opinion. I dont say mel gibson is a heritic.

Are you saying its ok for a Christian to harass/make fun of an Atheist or anybody else, but its not ok for people to harass/make fun of Christians? Christians do the same thing(in other countries) that Atheist do to Christians in your country.

If you want to attack a movie that disgraced our Lord, attack "The Last Temptation of Christ" or perhaps that recent sitcom that was cancelled "The Book of Daniel."

I agree with the others that "The Life of Brian" is not really that bad. I do think they show some disrespect when they make it look like the people of that time were looking for anyone to follow, which seems to infer that they were naive, suggesting that this was the climate that helped the Christian faith take hold. I know it was all in fun, but some things are sacred and shouldn't be the subject of comedy.

As I said a muslim cannot do that because we believe Bible still contains words of One and only G-d.

If a someone does this in a muslim country he should be punished of course.

If someone does this to another holy book of a religion he should be punished as well.

I do not think there is a fixed punishment for that .This would vary from country to country.

Insulting people of other beliefs cannot be a freedom .

"mercuryandy", why this hatred against me? calling me "it" and saying i'm fishing for attention? you're sad. if you haven't been mocked in school for being christian even once then you don't know what i'm talking about, so stay out of it, you only bring hate to the topic and i have already reported you. good for you that you don't pick up signals about the harrasment towards christians, but you seem to have missed my point, my topic wasn't about muslims, it was about people like yourself who don't care.

you're an atheist so you are part of the group that opresses me whether you like it or not, don't expect any sympathy.

You're a Christian. You are part of a group which opresses me/ my religion. How should I treat you? Badly, without sympathy? That makes no sense, and does not solve anything.
Everyone is part of a group which is opressed, everyone is part of a group which opresses. Should we have no sympathy for anyone then?

I've been mocked, by Christians, in school for being a pagan. I know what you're talking about. It's not fun when someone is mocking you, but throwing a fit and having a riot isn't the answer. Is it really what Jesus would do? You're supose to be following his exmaple, after all..

I'm curious. You said you're nigerian british and living in london. Is it possible you are being 'oppressed' bec of the colour of your skin rather than your belief? Just a question and I am not a rascist.

You reported him? If anyone should be reported it's you for supporting violence.

Yes, but it just needs a simple disproval. You have to ask yourself who's the better person.

i gotta agree.

Also, this whole thread is a bit strange if you ask me.

Christians do cop a bit in secular western society through tv and movies and stuff but its hardly opression. Its more just stiring people up a bit. I mean many Christians dont see it as any more than a bit of fun and generaly ignore it if they dont like it.

The answer is people who say they are Christians or christ like don't care about Jesus, their love for him is only Lip service.Christians don't revere him. They are not even prepared to emulate him to do like he did and live a life like he did. They are not even prepared to protect his integrity. His message has been reduced to just Lip service all they care about is he will save them. What they give in return to him? Nothing.
Jesus warns clearly of this lip service love for him:

Mt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Mt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Could be. Peter gives the same warning to those that also twist the Scriptures.

2 Peter 3:16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable [people] twist to their own destruction, as [they do] also the rest of the Scriptures.

Galatians 5:22 And the fruit of the Spirit is: Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,

Do you have any statistics to show that atheists are the majority in the UK? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I have never seen stats to support it.

On the contrary, the 2001 census shows that Christians are the overwhelming *majority* at about 70%

im not going to say anything about the movie but ill speak in general about why i think crhistians dont get together and protest things that offend them.

i noticed that most american christians are usually american first christian second unlike muslims who are muslim first then what ever nationality they are, and you can see that in what the american public protests to you always see the abortion protest the gay marriege protest but i have never heard of any christians coming together and protesting anything good or bad.

its really weard to me, one time i was watching tv with a christian and we were watching southpark and that eposode had jesus on it and i was preatty ofendid yet the christian didnt even care, then we switched to a news channel and they were talking about gay marrige and he got all angre and talking about how its wrong and how it would affect him and his kids. now im not saying that all christians are like that but alot are. when they see something offending there relegion they say its there freedom but when they see somethng they dont agree with like abortion or gay merrieg then they take it personaly and speak up.

An interesting topic.

Dylan_Chica, I am in the almost exact opposite situation as you: I'm an atheist who lives in a small conservative town in the Mid-Western United States. I have never made fun of the Christian religion, but back in my younger days when Christians would say disparaging things to me, either whispering them behind my back or saying them straight to my face, I would return the favor. However, just feeding off negative feelings like that and returning them accomplishes nothing.

Since then, I've fought back using a different method...by treating such people with respect, meekness and kindness. Now that I've been doing that for a few years, people's reactions are much different..."you're an atheist? Wow, I've never met one like you before," things like that. People cannot ignore the light of kindness and friendship forever, and returning good for evil is one of the surest ways to get people to take notice.

Your own Savior knew this..."pray for those who persecute you," "blessed are the meek," "turn the other cheek," etc. The martyr Stephen, as he was being stoned to death, did he use his last breaths to hurl curses at his attackers, or did he say "Lord, do not hold this sin against them"?

A little advice for you, feel free to do with it as you wish: I think you need to do some serious soul-searching and think on this issue. From my own knowledge of the Christian scriptures (limited as that is), your sentiments stand in almost direct opposition to what Jesus taught.

As trite as it may be, perhaps the next time someone disrespects you, you should remember a popular slogan from a few years back: WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?)
