  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If Obama was a 'White Man', he would not be in this position?

What in the world was Geraldine Ferraro thinking when she said that. Either she doesnt understand the deft political skills that Barak Obama has displayed or did she meant to point out that a 'White Man' running for President is the norm, and Obama is different so that is his only draw or reason people are voting for him. What did she really mean.......

"...Geraldine Ferraro defended her controversial comment that Sen. Barack Obama's campaign was successful because he was black...

In her first interview with Daily Breeze, published late last week, Ferraro said, "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept." ......

Oh, I know! Look at the wonderful advantage being black conferred upon Jesse Jackson when he ran for president.

Wikipedia reminds us that Geraldine Ferraro was Walter Mondale's running mate for vice president, and campaigned for Hillary Clinton. She's still campaigning for Hillary.

I think Obama showed strong leadership when he answered Hillary's presumptious offer, for him to be her VP running mate.

Obama has answered Hillary's ad with the phone call in the White House at 3 a.m., with the most important statement- that what counts is what judgment the person has who will answer that call. She did not show proper judgment when she voted for Bush's economically ruinous and strategically counterproductive Iraq war. Obama had the right judgment from the beginning, to vote against it. Now who do you want answering the phone? I think Obama has answered it already- and handled the situation in the right way.

It is Hillary who has an un-earned advantage in this primary election, because she is a traditional, old style Democrat, favored by the old Democratic political machine.

They are pushing this as quickly as they can to the backrooms of all the online news feeds but I did find this tidbit.....
Ferraro: My comment wasn't racist, it was fact...

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/12/ferraro.comments/index.html

I can feel the code words being given letting us know only 'certain people' can suceed and make good in America, the 'unwashed masses' must stay in their place, far from the levers of power and influence...

It seems they feel that even if someone who isnt 'white' showed skill, talent, intelligence they could not possibly get ahead in life using those attributes and gifts, so there must be another reason.

It either must from a affirmative action program, or maybe all that goverment cheese they ate, or they are kindly being allowed by the liberal elites to look like they are succeeding, but just for show. Dont actually succeed or get ahead, or worse, think you are succeeding...

Red,
Evidently Ferraro said the same thing about Jesse Jackson. What's her problem? This is embarrassing to the party- it's the kind of thing you might expect of Republicans, but Democrats? I think it's a throwback to Democrats of yesteryear, back when the South was solidly Democratic. I thought that was over. Evidently not.

Her defense, "My comment wasn't racist," was just plain denial.

It's looking more and more like the Clinton people are capable of anything, and will do anything to get her elected. No wonder Hillary has so many enemies. After this she'll have enemies on both sides of the aisle. I used to think it would be equally good whether Hillary of Obama got the nomination- not any more! That woman has to be defeated and marginalized before she does even more damage to the cause of reform than Bill did.

I told my boss this morning that the only reason I can think of for G.F. to make that kind of crazy statement is if someone paid her to sabotage the Clinton campaign.

Sometimes people dont have to paid to insert 'foot in mouth' and keep insisting they are right.......

Well looks like somebody got GF to do the right thing and resign......
Ferraro steps down from Clinton campaign

"....Former congresswoman and vice-presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro is resigning her fundraising position with Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign after controversial comments she made about Clinton's rival, Sen. Barack Obama.

NEW: Ferraro says she's "absolutely not" sorry for her controversial remarks
Obama calls Ferraro's comments "ridiculous" and "wrong-headed"
Ferraro calls Jesse Jackson "radical" in a 1988 Washington Post story
Ferraro says her Obama comments were "a statement of fact"...."

Now Hillary wants to 'apologize', after she does a round or two with Geraldine Ferraro in a dark back alley and gets her to resign.......

Clinton apologizes to black voters

"....Sen. Hillary Clinton did something Wednesday night that she almost never does.
She apologized.

And once she started, she didn't seem able to stop.
The New York senator, who is in a tight race with Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination, struck several sorry notes at an evening forum sponsored by the National Newspaper Publishers Association, a group of more than 200 black community newspapers across the country..."

Was she really that far off base?... Think about it. This deomcratic race is considered historic, why? Everybody is using the word historic... Is Obama holding to some ideal that would set him apart from anybody else that has ever run for the presidency to use words like this? Same thing for Hillary. The reason the word "historic" is used is because Hillary is a woman and Obama is black. This is not the whole reason for his strong following but it has put his campaign over the top in terms of comparisons to past elections because there has never been another black to push this strongly for the presidency. But, the same is for Hillary and the fact she is a woman.

Yes, but if I had a IQ near genius level (I wish..), and I went to Harvard, and everyone there, kept saying 'well its historic that a 'balsero' cuban immigrant was allowed in our hallowed halls'. Would they be recognizing me for my intelligence, or because somewhere, somehow, I got in because of my 'uniqueness' of race or ethnicity.....

I think the point with Obama is not that he is pushing so strongly for the presidency, but that he is the first black that so many of us have wanted so strongly to have as our president. I support Obama because I read his book. I found a lot in his political philosophy and spirit that was either my feelings exactly, or more noble and mature than my own feelings (especially toward the Right Wing) were at the time. To say that we support Obama because he is black is really a big insult to our intelligences. No, Ferraro was way out of line on that one, and it has seriously damaged my personal view of her.

Its a common flaw in those with power in the upper class, they always hold a prejudice that no one outside of them can attain the heights they have in power and office, so thus it must be because of some twist of nature or just a passing fad of the masses..........

Well she had to go that was indeed a racist statement, a bit like hearing the story of a white Adventist talking about visiting the black side of heaven to hear the good singing. When I heard that one (it might be an Adventist urban legend) I fell about laughing at such ignorance.
Yep racism is alive and well and goes to church on saturdays- lol

I have been an Obama supporter since he decided to run. My house is divided because my wife supports Hillary Clinton.

My wife told me something a couple weeks ago that she knew would give me concern and perhaps sway me over to Hillary(it's not it's actually making me consider voting for McCain in November). She told me that Obama is an Anti-Semite and the Pastor of his Church is an Anti-Semite and Obama is friends with Louis Farrakhan(who is a KNOWN Anti-Semite.

So now, I wonder about Obama. I cannot and will not vote for someone who is against the Jewish people.
I don't know if I can trust Obama regarding Israel.
I cannot stomach Hillary and cannot hold my nose and vote for her. I'm seriously considering voting for McCain in November now.

That sounds like just a scare tatic to get people to stop supporting, and is used when you cant find something in the person or church, so you use whatever is convinient even obscure 'urban legends'.......

Thanks, Red.

So it's ok for me to keep on supporting Obama.

I know why my wife is so pro-Hillary she is really excited about having a woman President. I'm open to that as well, but not THAT woman(Hillary).

G-d Bless.

Hi, Lebesque
Just because Louis Farrakhan, who likes Obama, is anti-Semitic, and just because Obama’s pastor makes comments that sound anti-Semitic (Unfortunately, the New Testament is sprinkled with anti-Semitic-sounding things); that doesn’t mean that Obama is anti-Semitic.

Jimmy Carter has said, and I agree, that the U.S.’ extreme favoritism toward Israel in the peace process makes us impede progress instead of acting as an effective mediator. At the same time, Americans are in denial and have their heads buried in the sand about the way overt and covert U.S. foreign policy oppresses the Arab/Muslim world on the behalf of our Oil industry. Barack Obama will not pursue that same kind of foreign policy, therefore he will be branded as anti-Semitic in some political circles in the U.S.

I don’t know what you mean about trusting Obama regarding Israel, but if you prefer the present extreme favoritism for Israel and don’t see any problem in how we treat the Arab world, then you probably would prefer McCain to Obama. But I think McCain would eventually disappoint you in other ways. We are all going to have to think bigger than just one issue in this election.

My wife is also a Clinton supporter because she is Hispanic. There is a political rivalry between Blacks and Hispanics that regrettably, and I think unwisely makes Hispanics not trust Barack Obama. As I said, we all need to think bigger this time.

By the way, Shabbat Shalom!
