Bible: The whole earth was one language. But the Bible isn't part of this equation -- it's James Ussher vs. Reality.
If I got cognitive dissonance every time science said something contrary to the Bible, I'd go MAD.And by “Boolean Standards” you really mean, cognitive dissonance.
Bible: The whole earth was one language.
Historian: We found different languages.
AV1611VET: Historians are wrong. They need to go back and rethink what they found. Are they absolutely sure it was prior to Genesis 11? If so, I don't care how sure they are; they are wrong.
Here you go, professor:AV1611VET: Ussher's work is infallible and without error. Let Ussher be true, and every man a liar.
I use Ussher's dating method as the standard method of dating things, and I realize his calculations may be flawed; but I agree with you that +/- a few hundred years isn't going to make or break our Lord's Bible.
Here you go, professor:
Either way you're wrong.Sounds like either Ussher got it wrong or the Bible did.
Either way you're wrong.
The whole earth was one language prior to the Babel incident.
He did!?But Ussher got the dates of that incident wrong --
Well ... professor ... what's the correct date according to the Bible?TLK Valentine said:-- and he relied on the Bible even more than you do.
He did!?
Well ... professor ... what's the correct date according to the Bible?
Then give It one.The Bible has no date.
Well we certainly wouldn't want to disappoint all those "scholars" who ask us for one, would we?This in a nutshell, is the problem. You guys just "give it one," while ignoring all the real evidence.
If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times, an improper understanding of a creation myth will distort your understanding of reality. Every time.Well we certainly wouldn't want to disappoint all those "scholars" who ask us for one, would we?
And we don't "just give it one."
If you think it's so easy to do, you try it ... scientist.
Our resident professor of literature doesn't seem to want to.
-_- why would you care? Honesty matters far more, in my opinion. However, you could just give a range based on the time period between Adam and the first mention of other languages in the bible that has a date attached to it.Well we certainly wouldn't want to disappoint all those "scholars" who ask us for one, would we?
Dude, I don't think the Babel events actually happened, but given how well versed you are in matters of the bible, I'm sure you can find the first mention of multiple languages in it.And we don't "just give it one."
If you think it's so easy to do, you try it ... scientist.
I'll agree.Bishop Ussher's dating technique was just a case of connecting the dots!
Then give It one.
That way you won't look -- [well, nevermind].
That way you'll look scholarly when someone asks you the year of the Flood or something ... professor.
Is that what you see Ussher doing? Why should I add things to the Bible which aren't there?
