• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. I wish I were at an age that I could do something about it. Do you have any idea how long it took me to realize that the only way I was ever going to make any friends (or even get a girlfriend for that matter) is if I hung around disabled people?

Hi Dean, I have aspergers, also known as high functioning autism, I helped set up a group called aspies for freedom in order to show the positive nature of autism, not just the negatives that get focused on too much.

We also set up chatrooms for people with autism, so that we can get together and discuss things online.

I hope you find friends, Dean, and I will be praying for you. A webring is a method of putting links on related Web sites, so that each site has a link to another site with the same topic. You may have seen these on various Web pages with a logo and on the left of it "previous site" and to the right of it "next site" and "next 5 sites," etc. You have to join the webring to participate in it.

I recently discovered that I have Asperger Syndrome -- ironically, the process began when I was reading a novel about people with autism and the possibility of a process that would "cure" it. I know that, as difficult as it has been to live with it (and as difficult as it has been for other people to live with me), I wouldn't want to give it up. I find in it too many advantages -- analytical ability, gift for detail, etc.

Besides, it's taken me this long to get used to being me (and I'm far from finished yet) -- being someone else would just be too much work!

Some people are jerks about the mentally ill, but there are nice nerotypicals out there. I have some of the normals for friends (although we're all a bit strange, normal in the brain or not)

Autism wasn't really worked with at earlier years of this disability beginning to surface. Your 29? When did they begin to understand your disorder and I am interested to know how they brought you out of the shell. I don't see my son as ever being able to have a romantic relationship.He loves but he doesn't bond to people other than family. Pets and friends have died. He doesn't get it.
