  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

People that used to respect me now don't simply because of my icon now :sigh:
they had no problem before when my Icon was simply the ordinary Christian one
Some people are just perplexing to me and I don't know what to do or how to handle it......
It feels personal to me even though I know it shouldn't
Any suggestions

Sorry to hear that. Could you possibly give us a generic example of what you're talking about? Although I'd say this is to be expected. Forgive me for not knowing your background but, are you a recent convert? If so, some of your Prot. brethren may feel angry, disturbed, afraid, etc. of your conversion. At any rate, this is the persecution that "we" face on a regular basis. The best thing is to try to be as kind and charitable as possible no matter what type of treatment you receive. Remember, as hard as it is, we are not to repay evil with evil. Not only will our Father in heaven see this, so will the others including the lurkers.

Blessings and peace be upon you,

Ok like I just got hit with one that he defended everybody else that was doing the same as I was actually they came to defend the position I had but when it came to me his veiled last line was "except maybe in the case of Roman Catholics". I was just about to praise the post right up until I saw that line. It is little things like that or the constant PMs I am getting one said that I wasn't a Christian anymore and didn't deserve to be here. Oh and yes I just changed and converted in fact I did it here. So this is very new to me.

Well thank you on your opinion of my Cross maybe I like it because I am girlie......
And I believe in things like respect I give it to others so I expect it in return. I see nothing wrong with that. I also do not see them for their Faith icon but their individuality. And that is how I would like to be looked at. I also see nothing wrong with that.

Did you just become a Catholic? If other Christians can't respect that, then they are being hypocrites. To make a dedication to a certain denomination normally requires a lot of study. You probably know what you are doing. As much as some would like to think, Catholics are Christians. I'm speaking from a protestant point of view. One Body...

...and that's my 2 cents.

debi...I, for one, am tired of the attitudes around here.

Please report all PMs that you feel are attacking you, or are breaking rules. In other words, calling you not Christian, bashing the Catholic faith, etc.

I will back you on these things in private. I don't have Catholic For Hire up by my avatar for nothing ya know...;)

I will try to do my best for you.

Well, these slams are just not called for. It's pure bigotry. But my advice still stands. What else are you going to do? Act like them???:( Nah, you're above that. Let your behavior be your witness. They're the little people for acting the way they do. The truth is, if you became Catholic, then maybe they're wrong. That bugs 'em.

Grace to you,

It distresses me so much though to know that people look at us in such a violent way. I know I had similar attitudes not long ago but only one time did I ever bash the Faith and I actually did it quite unwittingly because I really did believe what I had read and trusted it to be a reliable source. I also thought the JWs were a reliable source because they believe in never telling untruths. I at least felt bad though after I did it and realized I had been offensive to the person. Whether I agreed or not at the time I had not right to offend in such a manner. To me it just feels like the more I am seeing and realizing it that some not all just have such hatred they don't care at all. Which IMHO is most unchristianlike.

Dear Debi -- I can only imagine how it must feel to be condemned for your faith choice by those you thought were your friends and brothers/sisters in Christ. May I simply offer to you the last of the Beatitudes?
Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you, and say all manner of things evil against you falsely, for My sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for your reward will be great in Heaven; for so they persecuted the prophets before you.

Hey I was looking for that today... LOL And couldn't find it. Isn't it funny I was going to offer that to someone else and you remind me of it. I think it is called coming full circle. Thank you   to polycarp much appreciated and needed.

To be honest Debi, I remember when you came in here and made some rather intense comments about our faith. It really insulted me.

But I tried to keep a level-head...and thankfully, through the use of God's servants, like Jeffrey and others around here, you seem to realize now that maybe, just maybe, you might've came off a little too harsh to the faith at first...;)

I'm glad you've recognized that. That is a good quality about you. More people need to learn from your example.

The difference between then and now that I am seeing in myself is that I do seem to have more patience. I don't fly off so quickly as I was prone to do before even though I always had the best of intentions not to. There was no Peace before for me. I may not know a lot right now but that was not the reason I changed my Faith I changed my Faith because I did feel at Peace when I was here. And because I able to see all those things that I had thought were wrong about the Faith before that I asked about were in fact not. I am also a big person on the bible and I do not want part of it I want all of it. I am angry that certain Modern Day Prophets in their wisdom removed them to begin with. I have only begun to start reading them but they offer so much already. Worshipping is not supposed to be easy. It does take committment and it is a lifestyle. I really feel like an infant some times that is taking in a whole new world. And I have to start from scratch. I realize that because of that I have be careful of what I say and how I say it so as not to do something wrong. It is not just here and maybe that is what is truly effecting me too. My husband is away and won't be back until March we talk all the time but when I told him he was not pleasd either. He said if I do this then we will have to get our marriage sanctified by the Church and he is not Catholic and does not wish to be one. So I may be overreacting a tad too. I am just upset at it all.

Maybe, maybe not.

1. Do you have a prior marriage? If so, who was baptized, and who was not?

2. If your husband is baptized with the Trinitarian formula (in the name of the F, S, HS), you do not need to have your marriage blessed. If he is not, then you will need to have your marriage blessed. But that's a blessing -- it's not forcing your husband to become Catholic. And if he respects you as a Christian sister, he won't have an issue with getting a blessing. It's that simple.

He is the one with the prior marriage I was never married before. And we were both baptist and did get married in Church and yes he is Trinitarian.

I am sorry to hear that you are being persecuted because of your faith. I think all of us here have experienced that at one time or another, so join the club.;) As a Catholic you will learn a whole new perspective of suffering, I am sure. We are taught, that when we suffer, that this suffering can have redemptive value if we offer it up to Jesus and make it a sacrifice and a prayer. As christians we share in the redeeming work of Christ, you are being persecuted and slandered like Jesus was, join your sufferings with His and you will experience peace. Believe me, take it to prayer with you and offer it up to him, I would even recommend that if you can, to visit Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament during adoration, much grace will flow from him and put you at peace.

Again, I am sorry, and if you need any help just ask me, I have been through this slander before.

I will pray for you.
