Hi everyone,

I worked for a mattress store from December 2014 to May of this year. I was promoted to store manager, and part of that included signing a non compete clause stating I would not work for any mattress shops for two years within a 75 mile radius of any mattress shop of theirs.

Well, things did not work out at this mattress shop. The hours were very long and it was hindering my social and church life. I also felt like the sales goals and expectations were impossible to meet. I wound up quitting this job.

I am sorry I signed that clause because I really enjoy this industry. I feel like my former company had some high pressure sales tactics I did not agree with.

Anyways, I have attempted to find a job outside the 75 mile radius and it is challenging because this store is a medium to large chain and they seem spread out all over the area in which I live. There is a mattress shop close to my apartment complex that I would really like to work at and has better hours.

I emailed the former HR department at my previous job and I am wanting to legally get out of this contract. I am not interested in competing or sharing proprietary information. Please pray for God's will to be done in this. I really want to work in the mattress industry and I want to do it legally. Thanks.

Hi,

I agree with you on that. That is why I am trying to get out of it the right way. I realize the Bible says we need to keep our promises and i want to be true to my word, but I am hoping for some grace here. Not grace to be dishonest, but grace to get the former employer's permission.

if I can't get their permission I will not pursue it.

I don't think that God is big on helping people renege on their promises. Even if your previous employer releases you, God will hold you to YOUR word.
If you could pray then, that if it's in God's will, I could possible find a job in the same industsry outside the restricted radius that will have decent pay that would be great.
