This thread is more about asking questions and looking for insight/answers.

I was raised baptist and have been a member of a non denominational, evangelical church. First let me say I have ALWAYS thought and felt that Christ is physically and literally present in communion. And I believe that scripture affirms that. I have a catholic friend and have emailed a priest and they are adamant that salvation is by faith in Christ, and that faith is alone is what gives you eternal life.

Having said that, can anyone point to me scripture or reasons we pray for the deceased' salvation? And also why we pray to/and for Mary and the saints? I'm having a hard time finding scriptural references for these actions.

I'm really looking forward to reading responses. Thanks

Even so, come Lord Jesus

I'm confused by many of your assertions here. I don't pray to Mary, for example.

I realize the original post was put in STR by mistake. However, I choose to play anyway.

. . .

2 Maccabees 12:38-46. It is not in the Lutheran/Baptist Bible, but it is in the Catholic Bible. More on that HERE.

We do not pray for Mary. She prays for us. We ask her and the saints to pray for us, because they have no obstacles to their prayer. Also, we know from reading Scripture that we are to pray for one another. Christians believe in eternal life, so the saints in Heaven are not dead. So, they can pray for us.

James 5:16, Revelation 5:8. More on that HERE.

From a doctrinal and dogmatic standpoint, I'd probably be Roman Catholic if they had a different stance on divorce. Also, the theology behind missing Mass kind of repels me.

Following Darth Bagel's example......I'd be a roman catholic if they allowed women and lgbt priests, and still had widespread latin language worship, not to mention Darth Bagle's view.

Bah. Another thread resurrected from the dead for no good reason.

Sorry, Albion. I'm still learning the ways of the place......didn't knew there was something against resurecting old threads. I'm sorry man, wasen't my intention to offend.

Don't sweat it dude, in your case it's perfectly fine to resurrect threads. There's an individual who posts elsewhere on the forum who just resurrects threads to stir the pot, not because they have a genuine interest in the content of the thread like you seem to have.

Welcome to CF by the way!

My fault, Silver. I knew that but failed to make it part of my comments. That was a slip-up. We often have people post on dormant threads to inquirers who have long since disappeared or have settled whatever was on their minds. And we also have one member--a good guy who nevertheless resurrects these things when he thinks things around here are slow. But you were just a new member and made a mistake that is easy to make and which many of us have also made. My apologies.

:sorry:

I would love to answer his question, but since this is an Anglican forum, I'd rather not.

You can come post this in One Bread, One Body and there will be plenty of people there willing to answer you. :)

He did take it to OBOB and you can probably catch up with him there.
