I want to be used by God to help others, but I don't know how. Is this something we're supposed to leave to the preachers? Since I gave my life to Jesus a couple of years ago, I've been concerned about my old friends who don't know Him.
I'm grateful for your burden for your old friends who don't know Christ. One way we know that we have truly come to know Christ and been born again is that we have a new love for others -- including those who don't know Him.
God certainly calls some people to be preachers, and they have many opportunities to touch others for Christ. But listen: God doesn't limit Himself to preachers! God calls every believer to be a witness for Christ, and He can use you right where you are. When Paul wrote the Christians in Thessalonica, he commended them because "The Lord's message rang out from you ... your faith in God has become known everywhere" (1 Thessalonians 1:8).
After all, how many of those old friends of yours will ever darken the door of a church, or go to hear a Gospel message by a preacher (unless you invite them)? But they know something has happened to you, and God can use you to tell them about Christ and the difference He can make in their lives.
Pray for your old friends, and ask God to help you share Christ with them. In addition, ask Him to show you other ways you can serve Christ. Your church, for example, may need volunteers to work with those in your community who have physical and spiritual needs.
