Actually, the trees in Judges 9 are a result of the fall. Before the fall, everything in the world was perfect and ideal - yet after the sin of Adam, the world became corrupted. What could be more corrupt than a tree that doesn't just stand still, but walks around and wages war on other trees.

Evolution cannot account for the trees.

There is no way to make sense of Judges 9 without a literal fall. Everything in the Bible must be read through the lens of Gensis 1-3, or it all falls apart.

If talking trees were the result of the fall wouldn't we see more walking talking trees now? Instead, now only banana plants can walk. What we see since the fall is a decline in tree talkativeness and wanderlust. Clearly as well, in Judges the trees' desire for a king was the result of the fall. Before the fall Adam had dominion over all the trees in the garden, well nearly all of them. God put Adam in the garden to till it and keep it, literally to put a hedge about it. Obviously this was to keep the trees in.
