Well, for one, we would have 7 extremist Supreme Court justices who seem to want to establish an oligarchy in this country and subvert our Constitution--instead of 6.

what is wrong with letting the states decide
They do, they take a “poll” of all of their citizens who are eligible and willing to vote and “decide” for themselves. Sometimes less than half of the above do the “deciding”…are you suggesting that a State Legislature is a better venue in which to make this decision?
That’d be fine.
If their Legislators write the Law to that says, “from now on, the State Legislature will decided for all of the people of this State who will receive our allotment of Electoral College votes.”
It’d be hunky-dory!

The State Legislatures already decide who gets the State's Electoral College votes.

Sounds like an argument in favor of Trump.

Why do you think it would have been better? How can we give you counter arguments if we don't know the basis for your opinion?

Had Trump won we would still have a President who believes the Constitution can be suspended if things don't go how he likes. That is orders of magnitude worse than economic or policy situations we have now.

For thr life of me I cannot imagine what would be better for thr American people as a whole if Trump were president.

His supporters would be happy but that really doesn't have to have anything to do with policy. Donald Trump could gnaw on a rubber tree in the oval office during a press conference and some absurd excuse would be offered for his behaviour. They just feel he can do no wrong while he's in power

The op asked you to provide a counter point and defend it. If you must put the OP on defense, you have proven that you have no defense.

You only asked for one, but i will add these 23:

I also wonder what would have happened in Ukraine with a weakened NATO and Trump openly courting and fawning over Putun.

It isn't that difficult to understand. The op stated that he believes it would have been better if Trump was elected in 2020 and asked for a counter argument. So what is your counter argument? Asking the OP to defend his opinion is a deflection tactic used to put the OP on defense because you either do not have a counter argument, or have a very weak defense of your argument.

I'm not going down the rabbit hole with you Ooompa so I will just state the following:

I believe *any* candidate who takes the Presidential oath of office seriously and respects the United States Constitution would have been better than Donald Trump in 2020.
