  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

At my parish, we started in September, and we've covered a single topic each week. We talked about the Holy Ghost last week, and previously we've talked about the Church, Mary, the sacraments, and the Bible and Tradition.

It'll probably be a bit different with only one convert, but it'll also mean you get to ask as many questions as you want. :)

Do they still bless salt? I had never heard of blessed salt until I saw the traditional rite of Baptism a couple years ago.

I adjure thee, creature of salt, in the name of God the Father almighty, in the love of Jesus Christ our Lord, in the power of the Holy Spirit. I adjure thee through the living God, through the true God, through the holy God, through the God who made thee for the well-being of the human race, and commanded thee to be hallowed by his servants for the use of those who come to the knowledge of her by faith, that in the name of the Holy Trinity, through thee may Satan be put to flight. Wherefore, O Lord our God, we beseech thee, sanctify this creature of salt and bless it; and make of it a sovereign remedy to linger within the inmost being of all who partake of it. In the name of that same Lord Jesus Christ, who is to come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire.

One very important thing to keep in mind when going to RCIA. It should not be regarded only as a program of instructions like going to grade school and doing your homework. RCIA is more than that. Aside from receiving instructions about the Catholic Christian teachings & beliefs, RCIA is also about formation of Christian character and formation of faith. Those formations cannot be rushed that's why RCIA takes at least six (6) months. A common comment from those who came out of the RCIA properly molded was "It is a gift & promise from the Church and truly RCIA delivers as the Church promised".

Paul, yep, and its growing in popularity too. You can take that prayer with you, and ask the priest to use it while blessing the salt in fact :)

The Rituale only gives the prayer said during baptisms for the blessing of salt, but it's also used elsewhere.

What does one do with blessed salt?

Is that prayer still in the new Rituale Romanum? I know the exorcisms are no longer used at baptism, but are they used for the blessing of holy water and salt?

I'm starting to develop the philosophy that RCIA is a form of penance for past sins.... For those of us who come into it well-informed, the classes can be quite elementary. Sometimes even the Priests are deficient in apologetics. I sometimes wish I could just stand up and teach the class. I seriously believe I may be called to help teach the RCIA program once I am in the Church. I am disappointed in the explanations I've heard, that even a recovering-Baptist layman with an Amazon.com account can articulate more accurately and convincingly :)
