  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I should have known better than to turn to Xtians for help.

After walking away from Pentecostal - Charismatic - Fundamentalist - Republican Christianity a couple decades ago, I make an effort to see if any Christians might be interested in helping me buy a particular bible.

What happens? Deleted. My request for help was spam, according to the person who did the deleting.

I tried to PM him back to ask why exactly a request for help buying a bible could be considered spam, and I get this message: "you need to make 5 posts before you can send a PM."

So typical. This is of course exactly the kind of ridiculous, petty power-tripping I could no longer tolerate back in the 80s. I guess pop-Christianity is still the ridiculous, petty religion it was back then. I should have known better.

Delete non-Christians. Pretty much sums up the whole point of the religion doesn't it? You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.

Have a nice self-righteous religion.

-Paula

PS... thank you to the one person who sent me 100 blessings in lieu of the $100-bible.

Well, I didn't see your original message and I'm not really sure why it would have been deleted, but please don't try to judge all Christians because of the actions of a few. I have several different Bibles that I like to use. First being the regular King James version and also the NIV. I hope to buy a new one soon where it has plenty of space to take notes. I hope that you have found one you are happy with.

P.S. If you haven't noticed there are many postings from non-Christians

I don't know what Bible you are looking for but the least expensive place on the net I've found to buy Bibles and other Christian books is at www.christianbook.com .

God bless!

I'm sorry that happened, it's sad and crappy, but you can't just let a few Christians speak for all Christianity, that would just be ridiculous. That's like just because you ate a few sour apples you cut down the tree, despite how there's still fresh fruit.

If I honestly had the money, I would have prayed about it a lot. I can see where they are coming from though, they have the no-pm no-linking until a certain number of posts because of people who come on message boards to spam advertisements. I know this isn't the case for you, but it's there for EVERYONE to make it easier on the makers of the website. It's sad though that your post got deleted, that shouldn't have happened, it's obviously not spam.

Mind you, it's not easy for everyone to see someone needing something in our society. It's human nature to be suspicious of people, and it's not always easy for the average christian to pray to God and ask if someone is for real or just trying to scam people. I beg you to consider this, not as a justification for the wrongful actions of others, but as an understanding of why it's so hard for some people.

Also, if your christianity hangs on a $100 bible, you're in it for the wrong reasons (although I have no idea what those reasons would be; maybe theology? lol) but if you're serious about finding the one true God, you have to look towards Jesus, not the Bible. The bible is just the book he wrote to help us out, it is NOT our god. Our God Jesus is free. If you REALLY want this certain bible, and I can understand why you would and I've felt the exact same way, just pray for it. God may not deliver it the moment you ask for it, but if you ask for it he WILL get it to you: if not give you something even better!

For your own sake, I beg you to consider all of this. Christians aren't perfect, but Jesus is. But some people don't pray first before doing something so rash as to delete a post of someone who simply just wants a really cool bible. I apologize on the behalf of all christians, but you cannot look to Christians for perfection, only to Christ. Of course we should be showing love, and some of us do show love constantly. Some of us show love a lot, and some of us are weak in the faith or stumbling and show love rarely. But regardless of a Christian and their connection and closeness to Christ and their fruit of love, we aren't perfect, only Christ is and him when he shares with us of his perfection and we surrender to accept it.

I don't have much money, but what I do have I give to you: a sweet friendship with the one true God: Jesus. A walk with Heaven Himself. It's yours for the taking.

Acts 3:6
"Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk."

I don't understand what your original post was about. You can go to a local bookstore and buy a basic Bible for $10.

Which "particular" Bible did you want? And why?

I was going to say. Why should I buy a hundred dollar bible for him, when I could buy ten at the same price for others who actually want to read it?!!

Why you or I would want? No idea.

Why God would want to? Because He cares that much! If I could stress a lot of stuff to a lot of people, it would be that God cares about quality as much as he does about quantity. He wants the best for his children, and all his children.

But I stress again, chirotic, God knows your heart and desires, and He will bless you for it, but if it's the bible you desire and not Jesus, you're in the wrong direction. If you want Jesus, he'll bless your hearts desire. If you want something else, he'll keep crying out to you because he wants to be with you SO much. Christianity isn't a religious, it's a relationship. It's not a book called 'The Bible' it's a God called Jesus.

Welcome to the forum, Chirotic.

Unfortunately, this thread is against rule 3.8 -- No Discussing Moderator Actions.

3.8 In-Thread Discussions of Moderator Actions Prohibited

You will not discuss Staff actions in the open forums. You may discuss Staff actions in the Appeals forum.

I have sent you a PM, and hopefully it explains some of the rules here and how and where you may post.

The reason your other thread was deleted is because soliciting money is against the rules here.

As others have rightly said, you do not need to start out with a very expensive and elaborate Bible. I would recommend starting out with a much simpler one, such as the English Standard Bible or King James Bible, but starting out with a very elaborate Bible wouldn't be my first suggestion.

I hope you understand everything I have said here, and please do check your PM inbox. Once again, welcome to the forums.

As this thread is against the rules, it is now closed.

God bless everyone!
