• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Over the course of the last year, I managed to quit smoking, though I mainly only used to smoke alot when drinking, I did occasionally have one or two during the day, and a last one at night (I enjoy walking at night, and a ciggarette at night was always nice.), but recently I seem to be getting more and more urges to have one again. Never when sober, only when I've been drinking.

I never buy my own anymore, just scrounge off other people, but I hate the taste in the morning, and the smell on my hair and clothes. Any motivators you guys can think of to help put me off the idea of smoking? Bare in mine I need to remember it when I'm inebriated.

Stop drinking for a while?

Had a feeling that was gonna be an answer. It's not so much the drinking that does it, its just more the case that WHEN I am drinking, I fancy a smoke SOOOOO much more, which is the problem. Seeing other people smoking is the worst thing...The smoking ban has made that problem alot easier now that smoking is only allowed outside, but still...its incredibly tempting, knowing I can have one.

I agree - I had to quit drinking for a while once I quit and even now still have to be careful. One goes with the other in your mind so it is a habit. Until you can brake the drink and smoke habit then I would say no to drinking. Other than that, tell everyone not to let you smoke and have one person who you know will hold you accountable for the smoking to go with you when you drink. The only problem is if no one gives you one will you buy your own? I guess the main question is do you want to quit more than you want to drink?
