  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What are opinions on this one? It looks to be a great movie in itself but it doesn't look to follow the book at all as far as I can see. But then it HAS been about 20 years since I read the book.
I've seen the standee poster with the credits listing at my local cinema. One of the credits is "suggested by Isaac Asimov's book". Even a loose adaptation usually says "based on", not "suggested by", so I think your impression is probably correct. The "3 Laws of Robotics" (and perhaps some of the characther names) may well be the only recognizable Asimov element(s). This looks more like a vehicle for Will Smith to kick some robotic butts and make wisecracks. ;)

I wasn't actually aware of the book....but when I first started hearing peoples expectation about artificial itelligence...this sort of scenario is what popped into my head. Robots turning bad, and trying to take over the human race. After all, if we make them smarter and smarter trying to mimic human emotions...eventually they are going to realize they are slaves. Anyway, I really want to see this. But there's a ton of other movies I want to see this summer, so I may have to wait for this one to come to video.

This is going to be a great summer for movies! If the robot did the murder, I hope they didn't name him R. Daneel or I'll be mad. Otherwise I'm psyched about any good action/scifi movie and it has Will Smith in it. BONUS!! :D

Artificial intelligence is a simulation of intelligence. Something AI can not learn because it is limited by numbers or something. I've looked at the AI for games, and it is really just recieving commands, like 'if A does this, B and C should do this, unless D does this'.
But what do I know?

I am sure it is going to be a great movie judging from the trailer. I am thankful that it is bringing attention to literature and the book. More kids will read the book.

I read the "I, Robot" short story long ago in Russian language. I do not remember any armies of robots running after people like the trailer suggests it was all on a much smaller scale.

It's been years since I read I, Robot but the book is not about an army of robots turning on man. It really is about a robot charged with murder. I can't remember how it went but the book was nothing like the movie looks to be. I am, however really looking forward to the movie because it looks to be great anyway.
