There is no cure for hearing voices. I accept that like everyone, everything I do will either be pain or cause pain. So I'm not so quick to seek out pleasure, seeing as sensual pleasure is always followed by deep melancholy. I don't think hedonism and optimism leads to happiness at all. If it did, then why would it be necessary for one to be so ambitious and seek pleasure?
Atheism says that Blessed St. Mother Theresa turned the world into a pain factory. Well, philosopher Gurdjeff said that life IS a pain factory. Atheism is deeply misguided in seeking scientific remedies for every problem. Science solves merely a fraction of our problems. Our pain may be compounded with pressure to be happy go lucky and grateful. We're told that because of technology we should be grateful. Well, if you were in prison, would you say, "ahh! Lights!" We are in prison. Can we leave?
With that said, I feel deep contentment most of the time. I embrace the voices as they protect me from my enemies by showing me what could happen if I become a follower of man rather than God. Suffering without God just hurts. There's no purpose for it. Suffering with God, like Pastor Mike said, gives us a slither of the cross, making us co-redeemers.
Hope that helps. Just my two cents.
