• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Six hours ago I put my cigarettes down, and I am committed to quitting this horrible habit for good. I am 33 years old, have smoked (re inhaled) since I was 14 years old - so I have been smoking for around 19 years now. I was a heavy smoker, usually two packs a day but sometimes as much as three packs a day.

It stinks, I'm embarrassed of the way that I smell. It's messy and gross and leaves a mess everywhere that you do it. It's unhealthy - incredibly unhealthy! I have lost my singing voice, and have a 'smokers cough'. I can hardly say anything without clearing my throat anymore.

I also feel as if being a smoker hurts me as a witness of God's word. Smoking is looked at as 'sinful' and looked down on in our society - and I dont want my bad habit to get in the way of ANYone's salvation. Or the fact that I have a cigarette in my hand to make me think twice about sharing God's Word.

I am also doing this in repentance, which is a personal matter.

If you are reading this post, and you are a believer, please pray with me to God, that he will help me through this. I believe that God will forgive me and that he will heal me - both spiritually and physically. In Jesus name, Amen.

I started when I was 12 and finally got free of them when I was 42. The lord sets people free in different ways, but He will set you free. He can do it. Keep looking to Him for your support. Don't listen to the voices of failure and condemnation. He is your strength, and He will prevail.

It's Monday morning, and I'm glad to start this week off as a "non smoker". I feel terrible - cranky, anxious, edgy, discouraged - you name it. But I know that this is just a phase and I want to put this in God's most capable hands.

If you are a Believer reading this post, please pray with me: "God, give her strength. Carry her through this. May You receive all the glory for renewing her body and spirit. In Jesus' name, Amen"
