I taught myself to read music, then I just learned the notes on the harmonica and started playing.

I didn't see this, sorry I didn't reply, I am self-taught if you'd like pointers on playing let me know, I had to learn to read music to learn about 30 years ago I bought a music book to learn to read music, now all you need to do, is go to YouTube and learn to read music.

I have not played an instrument for many years. Used to play the Guitar but only some cords. We have taken our son to music lessons, however. He would know how to read music, but he never really had an interest in it.
