  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I need your opinions. Please help.

I am a new member in search for some advice. On Friday my girlfriend went to a revival for praise and worship. And there was some organization there wanting people to sign up to travel around to other churches and to do stuff. I'm not really clear to what. But she called me the next day kind of scared to tell me what she had done. She finally told me and I was proud of her decision but there was a catch. For her to be in it she couldn't have a boyfriend and she would have to go away for a year. Of course i was upset. I don't want to lose her and it really hurts to think that everything that we had planned for next year won't happen. But I want to know is how should I take this, if you were in my situation would you think of plans to get here to stay or would you let her go. I've told her over and over again that she has my support but It still kills me to think that she won't be mine. Please help me out maybe you have something that can really help me out. Thanks

That is definitely tough. I would want to find out more information about the organization, for one thing. It sounds rather odd to me. And why couldn't you still be committed to each other during that year apart? If you see this as a relationship that could last.

Seriously, I find it odd that some group dictates whether or not she should have a boyfriend...

I find it odd too rose red but she is commited to this. And she gets upset whenever we start talking about it.

Sounds odd to me too....she is absolutely not commited if she changes or mind....please realize that if she is having her doubts or feeling strangely about this then she needs to follow her intuition..even if she gave her word it is ok to change your mind:)

it sounds really odd to me as well. well, if u stay with her, she will be kinda upset about not goin through wit the thing. but if u let her go, u can always get back together. this will be a chance to prove ur love 4 each other. to find out if it is strong enough to be on hold for a year.

HI There:wave:

My opinion on this is.....Im kinda paranoid. With all the bad things that happen these days with people doing evil to one another, and being a girl, Id be very cautious about going with anyone I didnt know!! Not to undermind her choice, and of course I encourage some kind of mission or such, but that kinda sounds iffy, ya know? If she truely wants to serve God in that way, do a mission, or peace corps, or something like that that could help a host of people and she could spread her word of God to those who may not know!
Now, for you, sometimes if you really really love and care for some one, you tell them what you feel, you express your concerns, you offer your opinion and then you may have to let them go to find their way. Its the toughest thing you may ever have to do. You pray and ask the God of your understanding to hold her in his hand, to look after her because you cant be there and HE can, in everywhere she is. Then you step back, Let Go and Let God!

Its tough but its the best way to do. Let God do what we cannot do as humans and he'll lead her in the right direction if she is truely seeking Him.

I'm going to add my 2 cents...It just doesn't sound right to me...I would try to find out A LOT more about this organization...If it's legit...respect her decision...if not...it's time for prayer...

 Hello, Friend!

I'm siding with those who say "Get more information on the group."

Just one more sticky little thing, however: you say you're upset that "she won't be mine." Let me suggest that people don't own people. I realize it is no doubt just love-talk, but sometimes we think of our loved ones in terms of ownership. That fear alone can make a person turn to an out-of-the-ordinary experience.
