I need to go to confession. I seriously feel like I'm in a rut, and spiritually ill. I've been so stressed for the past eight months, and I haven't given God all I could. I really haven't. Rather, I've grown steadily more depressed, and more withdrawn, and my entire life has suffered. But ever since I felt that God confirmed my desire to seek the priesthood, I feel that I've been under a spirtual cloud.

I'm gonna go try before mass in the morning. Pray for me please!

(If anyone wants me to pray for them, pm me!)

Anyone have any advice about this? I've only been to Confession twice before, and I stil get so worked up and nervous about it.

Hi there, Benedictine. Glad to see you post.

I understand how you feel. I've been experiencing many of the same feelings. Confession really does help. It forces us to look at the ways in which we have failed to serve God, and it reveals to us many obstacles that lie in our path. God is very willing to confer His graces upon us and confession is amazing in that regard.

I've been going to confession regularly for years... and it doesn't really get easier. I am always nervous and always awkward. I guess part of it is because it's just difficult to admit that you aren't perfect and that you do things that are silly and not in your best interest even though you're a smart person. Admitting that you're human is a tough thing to do sometimes. ;)

I'll keep you in my thoughts. :groupray:

Praying--and please--please talk to a professional in the mental health field about depression.

Depression is a physical ailment....yes, there can be spiritual ramifications- but in order to have healthy relationships (and faith is afterall relationship) you need to seek wholeness and wellness.

Re confession- just go and pour your heart out- but remember depression is not sinful- feelings aren't sinful....however, remember that your priest is (unless from his life pre-priesthood) not a trained mental health professional..through him grace is bestowed. Use that grace to seek wellness.

You have the right to an anonymous confession.

Maybe you could find a parish outside yours to do this ?

I use the Cathedral during busy hours and wait in line behind a couple dozen folks... the priests forget the confessions anyway.

Prayers for you.

I always get worked up & stressed out before confession. Don't know why, I've always felt loads better afterwards & not nearly as dramatic as I make it in my mind.

It does not suprise me that you've felt under a cloud of depression after feeling a vocation. My advise is to go to confession & seek out a spiritual director.

Maybe you could use another way to worship God.

Have you heard of Life in the Spirit?

It has already been transforming for me and my wife and our energy levels have increased for God as well.

Also I will say a prayer for you. :crossrc:

Stop doubting yourself. We do nothing without him. Commit all your works unto him and your thoughts will be established. I will pray for you. Please pray for me too.:crossrc: By the way I go to reconciliation almost every week. We all fall short. Thank Christ that God sees us like him.:crossrc:
