• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

It's a process that only you can design. You have to be sick and ready,or have a very strong reason to quit and fight. For me,I've been smoke free several months now.My wife's pregnancy was the key. Please find something concrete to base your hate for smokes on.If it's just forsimple(thats how we see it) health reasons, then at any time you can slide.Think of one reason you can feel good about.I'll pray a quick prayer for you. Ever visit your local hospital? Try the cancer ward.It may get to you enough to see the facts, maybe.

Quit Smoking...

Hi All,
I tried quitting smoking so many times. I would quit for at least 2 months and then something stressful would happen and I would light up again. I did that so many times. The doctor told me that I had done a lot of damage to my lungs so I had better quit or die from emphysema, but I still couldn't quit, until one day I got so disgusted with myself and started crying, through my arms in the air and begged God to take this because I couldn't do it. After that I wore the patch for one week. It has now been over three years since I quit...GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME...........THANK YOU JESUS, I CAN BREATHE AGAIN...I have developed asthma but with GOD and my medication I will be alright. You all can do this. If I can anyone can. I am also a recovering addict with 8 years clean & quitting smoking was harder than quitting drugs, but with JESUS CHRIST you can do anything...God bless you all and never give up....Pray..

Hi! I want to quit too, I started smoking around 15 or 16 just on weekends and stuff and then I smoked off and on all the way through my college years and I moved away from home and when I decided to move back I quit for like 5 years and then last year i got divorced and a couple of months after that I started smoking again and now I am worse than I have ever been. I am 27 and I still won't smoke in front of my parents because they wouldn't like me that much anymore  I really think about my kids and how it willaffect them (seeing me smoke) and I feel like I am keeping a secret from my parents and that makes me feel guilty:( . It is just not honest, and besides I want to live a long life and see my kids grow up!! So if anyone else wants to try to quit with me I could really use the support!

Laters,

BaLinda77:)

They do trap us.I think they seduce us in a way and I am fighting my way around situations where I could use that crutch.I don't because I have too much at stake now.I invested too many months into this. You will stop when you find yourself tired of the crutch.

I was a smoker for over 20 years. I would smoke up to and some days beyond 2 packs per day. I have toyed w/ the idea of quiting for years but the real truth is I enjoyed smoking. 6 days ago I decided that I WANTED to quit for REAL. I went to the doctor and asked for help. By the grace of God and w/ the help of Nicotrol inhaler I have been smoke free for 5 days. What I am really trying to say is YOU have to WANT it.

Okay, here's how I quit. I ate bags and bags of sweet tarts. You know the ones that come out around Easter and Valentine's. There's something about the citrus that curbs the desire for cigarettes. Yes, I ended up with some cavities, but haven't smoked in almost 11 years. You can get them in rolls too. Worth a try. Good luck to all of you. I know how hard it is to quit. I had pneumonia and could barely inhale, but still wanted to smoke. That's how addicted I was. It's not easy to quit, but I'm glad I did.

For me, it was bags and bags of sunflower seeds. I ate them all day long and it gave me something to do.

I think everyone needs to find their own way through this. It is great that you are thinking hard and you may not succeed the first time but keep at it - one day you will succeed like all of us. We live in hope of the Lord God. God bless.

I was prayed over and annointed with oil, 5 weeks ago and Praise the Lord ,I seldom even think about it now. Have you thought of having the elders of your church pray over you and annoint you with oil? Cheaper than any stop-smoking aids, too,LOL! God Bless You.

I feel like you can quit as once preached by my pastor if someone can go with out smoking for an hour they can go a day than a month and never. The point is you can stop just ask God to keep you and wacth over you and keeping you from the temptions on the world which is one. You will be in my prayers know that you can't stop by yourself you need God in order too stop and for good. If we didn't than we wouldn't need God But we do so much so pray unto your daddy and ask him each day to help you stop and than start to thank him for it.

I'm a smoker, and I know how difficult it is. I still smoke, and I have tried to quit countless, times. With the help of God, this time I will quit, and I hope you do too. The power of prayer will help you. Everytime you want a ***, just think, what would jesus do. It's worked fo me, since I started to quit. It seems like a daunting task, but when you face it, one cigarette at a time its not that difficult. The first three days are the hardest, after that, it's not a problem. Trust me, and trust in God, he can help you through this,
