last year I went to a summer camp and it was the highlight of my year, this year I don't have the money to go and also can't attend for personal reasons. Im absolutely devastated by it. the word of God tells us not to dwell on things that are not true, but it is true that I will be missing out

what promise of God can I hold on to in this situation?

God doesn't need camp in order to give you himself. God promises to work through all things in order to give us Himself and conform us to the image of Christ. Last year God used camp. This year he will use something else.

Trust that Our Father works everything for YOUR good.
Rom. 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I think this is a great opportunity for God to show you that, you won't be missing out; you don't need to go there.

what promise of God can I hold on to in this situation?

That God is always with you, He will never forsake you and that He is all you need. You need to believe and grow in this truth that, spending quality time with God in secret knowing that He's there with you, is of much value spending a thousand days elsewhere, even if it's themed around God.

I'm not saying summer camps are useless, but there's a great lesson for you to learn here. Be with God your Eternal Father who is the only One who can satisfy your deepest heart's desires. Don't be devastated by not being able to go, it means you are attached to such things. Lord Jesus wants you to see, you can have a much better time spending quality time with Him just in your room or where ever else where it's just you and Him, and that you are not to be attached to these kinds of things.

Use this time you have to grow in the fact that the Lord is ever present with you, and that He is to be the priority in all things. God bless.

As others have said, God is always with you.
You were quoting from Philippians 4:8 when you said to dwell on things that are true.
This does not mean to dwell on facts that are true, but to dwell on whatever is True, honest, just pure, lovely, of good report, and if there is any virtue or praiseworthy.
The fact that you will be missing out on camp is true, but it does not fit the other 7 things listed. Only Jesus Christ fits all 8 aspects.

Focus upon God and keep asking if there is some way you can go because you really want to... and make it known to the church etc too. HOWEVER also know that God may be keeping you from some tragedy, or at least delaying your plans to circumvent one... Think good thoughts, and draw this in... if you dwell on not being able to go you surely will not.

Ecc 7:10 Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this.

thats an interesting verse, why is it not wise to ask such a question? isnt it a valid question ?

"Missing out" ??? That may be the small picture, missing out on camp, but there is a bigger picture. Psalms 84:11.
You think the Lord doesn't have something for you as good as camp? Camp experiences and activities can be great, as can many other things, but learning to be joyful, thankful, and content with less than these things in such a situation as yours can be a great blessing to God. It is a sign of maturity, a sign of faith and trust in the Lord. We miss out on many things here on earth, but God has something far greater for us in the next life which will well make up for anything we may have missed out on now. Philippians 4:11. Matthew 6:19-21. Matthew 6:33 may apply to your seeking the greater lessons of spiritual growth that God may have for you in actually missing the opportunity to have the experiences of camp. We can't "always go to camp", but we can alway seek to receive what God has for us "outside of camp." Lord, help this one understand what I have been trying to express here. Amen.

I suppose you'd have to ask Solomon to get the definitive answer. For me, I've found that I often long for "the good old days" and that makes me ineffective in the here and now. So looking in the rear-view mirror (so to speak) is bad for me. It robs me of present joy and service opportunities, and it offers no hope for the future.

Because it keeps you focused on the past.
As Paul said, "Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward unto those things which are before.

(seemingly) that question presumes that Yahweh(God) is not keeping His Promise to work all things (everything good and bad, beautiful and ugly and neutral, everything everywhere),
out for the good of those who love Yahweh, who are called according to His Purpose.

Even without knowing the reason why Yahweh says something, btw, it is still best to believe Him and trust and rely on Him, for 'Yahweh is not a man that He could lie'.... He Is Absolutely Truthful, Faithful, and Completely Trustworthy Eternally, Unchanging.

Why do you come to that conclusion? I don't get that at all.

It's no conclusion on my part, nor trying to figure something out.
Rather, simply, and in line and in harmony with all of Scripture and all of Yahweh's Plan and Purpose in Jesus, It is what Yahweh revealed.

Oh. Well, He didn't reveal that to me.

maybe, probably, but I tend to become overwhelmed with FOMO (fear of missing out) which prevents me from even enjoying the here and now

what promise of God can I hold on to in this situation?
1TIMOTHY.6: = 6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The Good Confession
11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, 15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.
