  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi!

I would like to buy a new Bible. I'm looking for several specific things, so I'm hoping that if you have a Bible (or know of a Bible) that has some of these, could you tell me what publisher/info? Thanks!

1. I'd like a NON red-letter bible. I find the red letter versions distract me from Jesus's words (don't enhance them!) and it's sometimes hard for my eyes (for whatever reason) to read red letter in different lights.

2. I'd like a bible that preferably looks classic... I have multiple bibles and I'm not generally picky about appearance (that's not the point, after all) but I'd like to make this a bible that I hold onto for a long time & hopefully hand down as a bit of a legacy- so a timeless look would be something I'd appreciate. I don't mind if it's plastic, fake leather, whatever.

3. Size... preferably something I can stick in a backpack or larger purse... so doesn't have to be that small but we're not talking an enormous family bible, either

4. Translation- I'm most comfortable with NIV, but I'm also OK with TNIV or NLT.

I've tried Zondervan & Tyndale's websites & looked in a BUNCH of Christian bookstores/secular bookstores. The number one block is that 90% of the Bibles out there seem to be red letter. I have no idea how to find a non-red-letter. I asked at a bookstore and the guy was like "um, we could probably order one" but even he wasn't sure.

I guess my ultimate question is: how do I find a non-red-letter Bible that looks like a classic Bible? (not that looks are everything)

Thanks!

Well, I had a parallel bible, and it's really great. I just checked and none of the translations are red lettered. It's a great bible. My translations are KJV, NASB, AMP, and NIV. It also comes with a NLT translation. If you wanna check it out its called a Zondervan Comparative Study Bible and is big enough to fit in a backpack! God Bless

I agree, the Comparative Study Bible (NIV/NASB/KJV/AMP) is great!

NIV Ultrathin Classic, Holman Bible Publishing

There are copies that are various colors. I got mine at a local discount store. Has no red letters. Is indexed. Is a reference Bible. Is NIV. Has plastic cover with magnetic flap. Cost is minimal. I paid under $20.00 US but the Bible was on a special sale. ISBN-1-5581-9858-8 for black
-7 for tan
for burgundy

Also available as a more standard looking bible from Cornerstone bible publishing as ISBN 1-55819-846-6 for black
-847-4 for burgundy
These are not indexed, but also not red letter. Cornerstone als has the same bible in some really odd colors, I guess to appeal to younger readers. This one cost me $10.00 and Mine is the bright red one, not my choice but what they had, other colors are purple, blue, orange, crimson.

As I said these are all NIV.

If you want info on other versions I would be happy to check it out.

Hope this helps you.

Red-lettering varies from one Bible to another. The only ones I have seen without it wouldn't work for you either. This is because they are either 1611 KJV's or really informal Bibles without leather bounding. Keep searching, I know you can find one, but I haven't stumbled over one yet and I am an avid Bible-buyer/shopper.
